Promotional discounts for Volvo models in Vietnam during August 2024.

Volvo stands out as one of the brands offering the most significant discounts in the Vietnamese market at present. Another brand with notable discounts is Volkswagen, which has adjusted its prices by up to VND 400 million and is offering additional savings of VND 200 million on their Touareg SUV, bringing it closer to the luxury segment.

Volvo, the renowned Swedish automaker, currently offers a total of 5 models in Vietnam, including the XC40, XC60, XC90, S90, and V60 Cross Country. Earlier this year, Volvo’s representative in Vietnam hinted at plans to introduce electric vehicles to the market in 2024, although specific details about the model and launch timing remain unknown. The upcoming electric Volvo could potentially be the C40 Recharge or the EX30.

All Volvo models sold in Vietnam are imported as fully built units. Prices for these luxurious vehicles range from VND 1.79 billion to VND 4.65 billion. While not the most affordable, Volvo cars are known for their extensive comfort and safety features, powerful engine options, and exceptional safety standards.

In July 2024, Sweden Auto, the sole importer and distributor of Volvo cars in Vietnam, was acquired by Tasco Auto, a subsidiary of the Tasco Group. Tasco Auto has an impressive portfolio, representing 13 brands, including Toyota, Ford, and Mitsubishi. They were also instrumental in bringing the Chinese automotive brand Lynk & Co to Vietnam in late 2023.

Sweden Auto, which entered the Vietnamese market 5 years ago, saw a profit before tax of VND 335 billion in 2022. However, the challenging market conditions in 2023 impacted their performance, resulting in a profit before tax of only VND 54 billion. The company has shown remarkable resilience, with a strong recovery in the first five months of 2024, achieving a profit before tax of VND 105 billion, almost double that of the entire previous year.

Sweden Auto’s sales volume in the first five months of this year grew by 23% compared to the same period last year. Volvo’s market share in the luxury segment in Vietnam continued to expand, reaching 14% in May 2024.
