August 2024, which coincides with the seventh month of the lunar calendar, has seen a significant drop in car purchases by Vietnamese consumers. To stimulate demand, automakers and dealerships have been offering discounts on various models, and Isuzu dealers are no exception.
Specifically, an Isuzu dealership in Hanoi is offering the top-of-the-line Type Z variant of the D-Max pickup truck at a discounted price of 750 million VND. This is a significant reduction from the listed price of 880 million VND, resulting in a savings of 130 million VND.
Unsurprisingly, these clearance deals are for 2023 models. While there are no design or feature differences compared to the 2024 models, the 2023 VIN Isuzu D-Max Type Z will depreciate faster when resold. Additionally, the quantity and color options for these vehicles are limited.
The Isuzu D-Max Type Z currently offers the highest discount in the Vietnamese pickup truck segment. In addition to the Type Z, some Isuzu dealerships are also offering incentives of up to 200 million VND on the premium 4×4 Mu-X variant. After the discount, the Isuzu Mu-X Premium 4×4 is priced at 1.055 billion VND, which is comparable to the standard variants of competitors like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest.
In contrast to its popularity in Thailand, the Isuzu D-Max has not been a favored choice in the Vietnamese market. In fact, it is often the lowest-selling model in the pickup truck segment and the overall Vietnamese market.
During July 2024, the Isuzu D-Max sold only 50 units, and its year-to-date sales stand at just 220 vehicles.
The low sales of the Isuzu D-Max in Vietnam explain why there are still 2023 VIN models in stock.
The Isuzu D-Max in Vietnam is competitively priced, ranging from 665 million to 880 million VND for its three variants. It also offers adequate convenience and safety features. However, its design is a significant drawback.
Even the top-of-the-line Type Z variant only offers basic features such as LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button start, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, an 8-speaker audio system, seven airbags, parking assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist.
The Isuzu D-Max is powered by a 1.9-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain.
