The second-generation MG5 has been on the market since 2019. MG has recently introduced an upgraded version of this C-segment sedan in the Chinese market.

As an upgraded model, the MG5 2025 features subtle design changes. MG has applied the design language of the MG7 to this vehicle.

The MG5 2025 boasts a redesigned front end with a wider grille. This grille no longer features black inserts on the sides, resembling mustaches, as seen on the previous version. Additionally, the grille now incorporates new vertical slats, while the MG logo has been repositioned on the hood.

The new grille design naturally flows into the redesigned front bumper, central air intake, and air vents. Above it sits a more aggressive-looking headlight assembly, integrating new LED daytime running lights.

Unsurprisingly, the side profile of the MG5 2025 remains largely unchanged. MG has only fitted the car with new alloy wheels.

At the rear, you’ll notice the new taillights that stretch further onto the sides. The rear bumper has also been refreshed and now includes faux air vents and a diffuser-like element painted in the body color.

Moreover, the MG5 2025 is now longer, measuring 4,715 mm in length, an increase of 40 mm over its predecessor. Other dimensions remain unchanged, such as the 2,680 mm wheelbase.

Similar to the exterior, the interior of the MG5 2025 has also been refined. The old asymmetrical design has been replaced with a more conventional layout.

Unfortunately, MG hasn’t mentioned any improvements in terms of safety equipment. However, we know that the car will be equipped with a 540-degree surround-view camera system.

Under the hood, the MG5 2025 continues to offer the same two engine options. The base model is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 127 horsepower. It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The higher-spec version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 179 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, driving the front wheels.

The MG5 is a significant model for the MG brand in China. According to local media reports, it accounted for half of MG’s total sales in the country during the first half of 2024. However, it still trails behind domestic rivals such as the Changan Eado and Geely Emgrand in terms of sales figures.

The MG5 2025 is set to make its public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show 2024, which will take place from August 30. Pricing details for the updated model have not been disclosed yet.
