In 1999, a supercar event called the Gumball 3000 was officially launched, creating an exciting playground for car enthusiasts worldwide. And this year, 2024, marks the 25th anniversary of the world’s largest supercar event. So, Gumball 3000 has decided to organize a car rally in Asia for the first time, with Vietnam as the starting point, passing through Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia before finishing in Singapore.
Currently, Gumball 3000 has announced 2/3 of the participants for this 2024 supercar event, and four names have caught attention. They are three Vietnamese expatriates and one local tycoon, who will be attending Gumball 3000 in two non-supercar vehicles. Specifically, a Tesla Cybertruck and a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is quite unusual for a supercar event like Gumball 3000.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, a luxury sedan, will be driven by two Vietnamese expatriates from the US, belonging to Group 66. Group 65 consists of a Vietnamese-Canadian and a Vietnamese national with the family name Nguyen.
Of the two vehicles, the most intriguing is the Tesla Cybertruck, an all-electric SUV. Participating in the Gumball 3000 with an EV will present a challenge when it comes to charging. The participants may have to recalculate their route and consider switching to a gasoline-powered car for convenience.
In international markets, the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is priced between $60,990 and $99,990 for three versions. According to the plan, the AWD and Cyberbeast versions will be available first. The RWD model will not be released until 2025.
The highlight of this electric pickup truck is its stainless steel body, which is left unpainted. Elon Musk described this body as an “exoskeleton” that gives the Cybertruck superior torsional rigidity, even compared to supercars like the McLaren P1, and it is also bulletproof.
Moreover, the Tesla Cybertruck 2024 is fitted with reinforced glass, which the company claims can withstand the impact of a baseball moving at 90 mph. Aside from its futuristic, angular design, the Cybertruck also boasts a spacious bed measuring 1,828 mm in length and 1,219 mm in width.
According to Musk, the bed of the Cybertruck does not require a bed liner like a typical pickup truck. It also features a lockable storage space with a capacity of 1,897 liters. This Tesla newcomer is equipped with all-terrain tires measuring 35 inches (about 890 mm) and an adaptive air suspension system, providing a maximum ground clearance of 442 mm.
The interior of the Tesla Cybertruck features a minimalist design, with a central 18.5-inch touchscreen, a 9.4-inch rear passenger entertainment screen, and a panoramic glass roof.
The top-of-the-line Cyberbeast trim delivers a maximum output of 845 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. Its top speed is 130 mph, while the range is reduced to 320 miles. With the additional battery pack, as seen in the AWD version, the Cyberbeast can achieve a range of 440 miles.
