The Mercedes-AMG GT is a sports car line that continues the success of its predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. It was introduced on September 9, 2014, and made its public debut in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show. Over the years, various versions of the AMG GT have been released, with the ultimate iteration being the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, introduced four years ago.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series offers a racing experience on a street-legal supercar. From its design, interior, technology, and powertrain, it exudes class and performance that surpasses the standard model, elevating it beyond a mere sports car. In Vietnam, nearly 12 units of the Mercedes-AMG GT have been imported, including the standard model, GT S Edition 1, convertible, GTR, and GT R Pro. However, none of them are the coveted AMG GT Black Series.

Recently, a brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series was shipped to Vietnam by air, capturing the attention of local car enthusiasts. This marks the first time in almost a decade that a supercar has been imported into the country via aircraft since the limited-edition Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition, owned by the husband of famous actress Ha Tang.

The reason for importing the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series by air is its participation in the upcoming Gumball 3000, the world’s largest supercar rally, which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 14 and 15, 2024. The exterior of the car boasts a sleek black color, accentuated with eye-catching turquoise graphics, reminiscent of the limited-edition P One Edition, of which only 275 units were produced.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series draws direct inspiration from the track-only Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing car. It is powered by a V8 Biturbo engine that delivers an impressive 720 horsepower, setting it apart from any other GT model, including the previously wildest variant, the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

At the heart of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the same 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo engine found in the GT R owned by “Qua” Vu. However, the engineers at Mercedes-AMG have made significant enhancements, including a new flat-plane crankshaft instead of the traditional cross-plane design, revised camshafts, and exhaust system to accommodate the retuned engine, and twin-scroll exhaust turbochargers mounted in anti-friction bearings for improved throttle response.

These upgrades result in a maximum output of 720 horsepower, a substantial increase of 143 horsepower over the GT R. The peak torque of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is also higher, reaching 800 Nm, an increase of 100 Nm. Coupled with a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Black Series accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h. In comparison, the GT R achieves the same feat in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 318 km/h.

One of the most striking features of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is its extensive use of carbon fiber aerodynamic elements, including wings, spoilers, and fins, reminiscent of a race car. The front grille, inspired by the Panamericana, is larger and more angular, providing improved airflow and engine cooling compared to other AMG GT models.

The front bumper, made of carbon fiber, is prominent, and the car features side air vents and a hood with two large air intakes. Carbon fiber is also prominent on the side skirts, rear bumper, and rear wing. The rear wing is adjustable and can be lowered by 20 degrees at high speeds.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series sits on striking black 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Cup 2 RM01A tires measuring 285/35 at the front and 335/30 at the rear. The wheels are complemented by AMG’s “Magmabeam” paint finish.

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series features Nappa leather upholstery with contrasting orange stitching, creating a sporty and luxurious ambiance. Carbon fiber is also prevalent throughout the cabin, including a carbon fiber strut brace in the front and a steel brace in the rear, both offering adjustable settings for fine-tuning the car’s handling characteristics.
