Prior to the pandemic, the Land Rover Discovery had enjoyed decent sales figures, reaching nearly 10,000 units sold annually in the US. However, in 2023, a significant drop occurred as only 2,416 vehicles were delivered.
This decline can be attributed in part to the strong competition from the Lexus GX, as well as the impact of its “sibling” model, the Defender.
To boost sales and avoid internal competition, Land Rover has contemplated moving the Discovery to a new segment. The new Land Rover Discovery is expected to embrace a crossover style rather than a minivan. This shift could entail a complete redesign of the Discovery’s exterior.
The seventh generation Discovery is anticipated to retain the versatile MLA platform currently utilized by the Range Rover. Consequently, the new Discovery may offer two engine options: gasoline and electric, with improved performance over its predecessor.
The new Discovery is expected to be launched during the 2026-2027 period, and its price will likely be significantly higher than the current model.
