The Vietnamese automotive market is off to an exciting start this year with numerous new models being launched. In addition, current models are also being updated with new variants and engine options to offer more diverse choices and improve their competitiveness in the market.

Suzuki XL7 Hybrid

As of now, the Suzuki XL7 remains the best-selling model in Suzuki’s passenger car lineup in Vietnam. Over the past five months, the XL7 has sold 1,752 units, but sales have recently dipped to just 15 units last month.

This sales decline coincides with rumors of a potential hybrid version of this compact MPV entering the Vietnamese market. Speaking to Tri thức – Znews, a sales representative from a Suzuki dealership in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed that the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid will be launched in Vietnam soon.

“When the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid arrives, the company is likely to discontinue the gasoline-powered variant of this small MPV,” the salesperson shared.

The sales representative also confirmed that the XL7 Hybrid will be available at dealerships by August. However, some other dealerships predict that the Indonesian-imported hybrid variant will be introduced to Vietnamese customers as early as this month.

In Indonesia and the Philippines, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5L gasoline engine that produces 103 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a 12V lithium-ion battery. These specifications are similar to those found in the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid.

The price of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid has not yet been disclosed. However, according to most sales consultants, the price is expected to remain unchanged or have a minimal difference compared to the gasoline-powered version. Currently, the Suzuki XL7 is only available in the GLX variant in Vietnam, priced at 600 million VND.

The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is also likely to replace the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid in the Vietnamese market. Despite being the second-best-selling model in Suzuki’s passenger car lineup, the Ertiga Hybrid is rumored to be discontinued soon. Some dealerships only have the 2023 AT variant in limited quantities. As of the end of May, the Ertiga has sold 1,122 units, making it the best-selling gasoline-electric hybrid MPV in Vietnam.

Haval Jolion HEV

Currently, the Haval H6 is the sole representative of the Haval brand in Vietnam. However, the Haval Jolion HEV has been confirmed to be introduced to domestic customers soon, positioning it in the B-segment SUV category to compete with established names such as the Mitsubishi Xforce, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V, Toyota Yaris Cross, Lynk & Co 06, as well as electric models like the MG4 EV and BYD Atto 3.

Haval dealerships in Ho Chi Minh City have started taking reservations for the Haval Jolion HEV. This dealership expects the Jolion to be launched in September, but some sales consultants from other dealerships assert that the vehicle will arrive in Vietnam as early as this month.

The Haval Jolion HEV has dimensions of 4,472 x 1,841 x 1,574 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,700mm. This B-segment SUV from Haval is powered by a 1.5L gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a maximum total output of 190 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque.

The Haval Jolion HEV is predicted to be priced at around 700 million VND. This pricing is similar to the Lynk & Co 06 (729 million VND) and the top-of-the-line Mitsubishi Xforce (705 million VND), Hyundai Creta (699 million VND), or the Mazda CX-30 2.0L Premium, which is priced at 749 million VND.

Wuling Bingo

Similar to the Haval Jolion HEV, the introduction of the Wuling Bingo will mean that the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is no longer the sole representative of the Wuling brand in Vietnam.

According to Wuling Vietnam, the Bingo, a small electric car from the Chinese automotive brand, has already arrived at the TMT Motors factory in Hung Yen province.

Specifically, the Wuling Bingo will be offered in two variants in Vietnam, corresponding to maximum ranges of 333 km and 410 km, respectively. The exterior of the Bingo features rounded lines, while the interior is equipped with power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic air conditioning, push-button start, and electronic parking brake.

According to Wuling Vietnam, the Wuling Bingo will also come standard with safety features such as ABS, EBD, auto brake hold, ESC, rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, smart key, and remote start.

The official price of the Wuling Bingo has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be around 500 million VND.

Following its global strategy, BYD’s initial lineup for Vietnam includes the BYD Atto 3, BYD Dolphin, and BYD Seal.

The BYD Dolphin is expected to be the most affordable model in BYD’s initial offering in Vietnam, while the BYD Seal is predicted to be priced at over 1 billion VND.

BYD has also stated that it will not invest in a public charging network specifically for its electric vehicle customers. However, BYD dealerships will provide charging stations to support inter-provincial travel for electric vehicle owners.

Ford Transit

The new generation of the 16-seat Ford Transit will be introduced in the first week of July. Ahead of its launch, Ford has revealed the first images of the 2024 Ford Transit on its fanpage in Vietnam, and dealerships have started taking reservations for this model since mid-June.

The Transit’s position lamps now feature LED lighting and are shaped like a C, similar to those found in the Everest and Ranger.

The detailed pricing of the 2024 Ford Transit will be announced at its launch event on July 5. It is expected that the new Transit will be priced at 899 million VND for the manual transmission variant with a 2.0L engine and 949 million VND for the automatic transmission version with a 2.3L engine.

Currently, the Ford Transit is only available with a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine in Vietnam, priced at 849 million VND. In the first five months of this year, the Transit sold 1,951 units, averaging over 390 units per month.
