The Gumball 3000 2024 supercar event is just over two weeks away, and the participant list has been finalized, with cars being shipped to Vietnam for the grand start on Le Loi Boulevard, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
However, there is some disappointing news for car enthusiasts in Vietnam and across Asean, as a few notable supercars will not be taking part in the Gumball 3000 2024. The reasons have not been disclosed, but the missing vehicles include the highly anticipated Koenigsegg Jesko, which was expected to lead the pack with the founder of Gumball 3000, and more recently, two other notable absentees.
A Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
These are the two Bugatti Chirons, one standard and one Pur Sport, which were rumored to be taking part in Gumball 3000 2024. However, the current list of participants for Vietnam’s largest supercar event does not include these two models, so it appears that these 3,000-horsepower beasts will not be joining the other supercars, which is a shame.
So, for Gumball 3000 2024, there will only be two Bugatti Chirons in attendance, both with Cambodian license plates. One is a standard model, while the other is a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, of which only 60 exist globally. Interestingly, while the cars have Cambodian plates, the owners are Singaporean. It is possible that they will meet the Gumball 3000 convoy as it passes through Cambodia, rather than coming to Vietnam.
If that is the case, the Gumball 3000 event will be missing any Bugatti presence, and the focus will shift to the Pagani Huayra BC Roadster of a South Korean enthusiast and the megacar Koenigsegg Regera of the enigmatic Dan_Am_I. Additionally, there are rumors that the Porsche Carrera GT from Thailand will start from its home country rather than being shipped to Vietnam.
The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport, which will not be taking part in Gumball 3000, is powered by the same W16 engine with a displacement of 8.0 liters and four famous turbochargers. This engine produces a maximum output of 1,479 horsepower at 6,900 rpm, allowing the Chiron Pur Sport to accelerate from 60-120 km/h two seconds faster than the standard model. However, the top speed is reduced to 350 km/h, and the fuel consumption is 22.5 liters per 100 km.
