The world’s largest supercar rally, Gumball 3000, is set to take place on September 14, 2024, with 120 cars participating. Among them, approximately 10 have been revealed to be entering Vietnam, all of which are supercars, luxury cars, or SUVs. The event’s 85th member, a Porsche Carrera GT, has just been announced and has quickly garnered attention.
This million-dollar supercar, part of the Thai team, sports an eye-catching license plate number, 9009, and a sleek black exterior. Its owner is known to possess several other impressive supercars. Only 1,270 Porsche Carrera GTs were ever produced worldwide, with over 5 believed to be owned by Thai tycoons. One of these will be present at the Gumball 3000 event, but it is unclear if it will be transported to Vietnam for the start of the rally or if it will join from Thailand.
The Porsche Carrera GT is a well-known supercar and the predecessor to the Porsche 918 Spyder, two of which are already on Vietnamese roads. The Carrera GT is both a coupe and a convertible, with a removable hardtop that can be easily taken off by hand.
When it was first introduced in 2004, the Porsche Carrera GT had an MSRP of around $450,000. However, its value has since tripled.
The Porsche Carrera GT was only produced for two years, during which 1,270 units were made. In 2005, the Carrera GT was named the Best Dream Machine by the TV show MotorWeek.
Powered by a 5.7-liter V10 engine, the Porsche Carrera GT delivers an impressive 605 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. This enables the supercar to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
