On July 9, Tan Chong Group and distributor TCSV (TC Services Vietnam) unveiled two upcoming GAC models for the Vietnamese market: the GAC M8 and GAC GS8.

The GAC M8 made its debut in China at the 2022 Chengdu Auto Show. It is the second generation of the GAC GN8, which has led the luxury MPV segment in the country for over three consecutive years.

At first glance, the M8 bears a resemblance to the Toyota Alphard, often dubbed the “land jet” in Vietnam. It boasts a large trapezoidal grille with chrome accents, seamlessly connecting to the headlights and narrowing towards the bottom.

However, the M8’s daytime running lights and taillights differ from the Alphard’s parallel dual LED bars. Instead, the M8’s main lights take on a right-angle shape, similar to the lighting design of Peugeot SUVs.

According to the manufacturer, the GAC M8 is equipped with modern technologies, including the SDC electronic suspension system and Level 2 driving assistance for an enhanced driving experience. Further details about the engine and pricing for the Vietnamese market are yet to be announced.

Previously, the GAC M8 was also launched in the Philippines in two variants: the 2.0L GL Master and 2.0L GX Master, priced between $51,298 and $67,554 USD.

In addition to the luxurious M8 MPV, GAC is also introducing the GS8 SUV, positioned in the premium high-riding vehicle segment. The GS8 will go up against competitors such as the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, and Volkswagen Teramont upon its release in Vietnam.

The GS8 features a large grille with dragon-scale or wing-inspired patterns, depending on the version. Its rear end stands out with unique “H”-shaped taillights and a pair of large, square exhaust pipes that add a sporty touch.

In its domestic market, GAC offers the GS8 with two powertrain options: a gasoline engine and a hybrid system. The gasoline engine delivers a maximum output of 252 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

On the other hand, the hybrid version combines a 190-horsepower gasoline engine with an 182-horsepower electric motor and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The GAC GS8 also comes equipped with advanced safety features, including a low-speed collision avoidance system, driver assistance system, and pre-collision warning system, among others.
