Reuters recently issued a warning advising drivers to stop operating certain Ford and Mazda models due to suspected airbag defects.
According to the advisory, there are over 457,000 vehicles equipped with defective Takata airbags that have not yet been recalled.
Since the beginning of August, there has been a recall of over 67 million airbags produced by the Japanese supplier Takata, due to a faulty airbag inflator module that can cause serious injury or death to the driver in the event of an accident.
Investigations have revealed that there have been 27 fatalities and 400 injuries in the US due to airbag explosions.
Despite the recall, approximately 457,000 affected vehicles have not yet completed the necessary repairs. Notably, many of these vehicles are up to 20 years old.
Specifically, Ford has approximately 374,290 vehicles manufactured between 2004 and 2014 that are affected, including the following models: Ranger, GT, Mustang, Fusion, Lincoln, Mercury Milan, and Edge.
Mazda has up to 82,893 vehicles manufactured between 2003 and 2015 that are affected, including the following models: B-Series, Mazda6, MazdaSpeed6, RX-8, MPV, CX-7, and CX-9.
Toyota and General Motors have also issued warnings against using certain models, including the Matrix, RAV4, Corolla, and Pontiac Vibe.
Several Nissan, BMW, and Stellantis vehicles equipped with Takata airbags have also been recalled.
