PV Power to Build First Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Hanoi
PV Power, the Vietnam Petroleum Power Corporation, has announced its plans to invest in and construct a pilot electric vehicle charging station in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital. The company has signed an agreement with EN Technologies Inc. to collaborate on researching and developing a charging system tailored for the Vietnamese market.
The fast DC charging station will boast a total power capacity of 100-120kW, depending on its location, and will occupy an area of approximately 30-35 square meters. Designed as a compact, upright cabinet, the charging station will feature a display screen that shows charging power, enabling users to monitor their charging status. Customers will be able to pay for their charging services conveniently by scanning a QR code.
According to PV Power, the total investment cost for this project is estimated to be over VND 1.8 billion. The charging fees will be calculated based on the estimated charging volume and a three-tier pricing structure, with the average charging rate expected to be around VND 3,858 per kWh. This rate is equivalent to the prices offered by VinFast and significantly lower than those of other providers such as EverCharge and EV One.
By venturing into the electric vehicle charging business, PV Power foresees new business opportunities and a strategic direction for the company’s future growth. The establishment of this pilot charging station marks the first step towards expanding the number, location, and power capacity of such stations nationwide. Furthermore, the development of EV charging infrastructure will encourage foreign electric vehicle manufacturers to invest more aggressively in Vietnam, fostering diversity and aligning with the government’s broader goals.
