Hyundai is set to unveil its all-new large SUV, the Ioniq 9, at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
The vehicle is based on the E-GMP platform and is expected to be the brand’s most expensive electric vehicle.
Hyundai has not revealed much information about the new model, only stating that it is a “three-row, all-electric Ioniq SUV.”
The Ioniq 9 has completed its pilot production phase at Hyundai’s Asan plant in South Korea and will undergo rigorous quality checks before entering mass production at the company’s new Meta factory in Georgia, USA.
The Ioniq 9 is the production version of the Ioniq Seven concept, which was introduced in 2021.
Initially named the Hyundai Ioniq 7 and planned for a debut at the Busan Motor Show in June 2024, the company decided to postpone the launch to perfect the product and change the name to Ioniq 9. This change is not just a numerical increment but also a strategic move to emphasize Hyundai’s leadership in the electric vehicle industry.
The Ioniq 9 will be Hyundai’s largest electric SUV, a symbol of luxury, spaciousness, and advanced technology. The use of the number “9” in its name reflects the vehicle’s status and creates a clearer hierarchy within the Ioniq lineup.
According to speculations, the Ioniq 9 will share the same powertrain and battery configuration as its sibling, the Kia EV9. The standard Kia EV9 has a 215 horsepower rear-wheel drive system, while the higher-end AWD version produces 379 horsepower and uses a larger-capacity battery for extended range.
