A Tesla customer in India recently shared that he had ordered a Model 3 in April 2016 but hasn’t received the car even after 7 years.

Vishal Gondal has not received any updates from Tesla regarding the delivery status since placing the order.

When booking the Tesla Model 3 in April 2016, Gondal was unaware of the on-road price or the delivery timeline. However, due to his enthusiasm for Tesla’s new model, he paid the requested deposit of $1,000 (approximately 25 million VND at the current exchange rate).

Initially, he expected to receive the car within a maximum of two years, but seven years have passed without any sign of the vehicle.

After waiting for some time, Vishal Gondal decided to give up and ordered an Audi SUV for his use.

It took him a lot of effort to complete the necessary procedures and paperwork required by Tesla to get his deposit back.

According to some information, the Model 3 was only introduced into mass production at the end of 2017. Therefore, the company prioritized deliveries in the North American market first, followed by Europe, Asia, and the Pacific countries, and then the left-hand drive configuration countries.

In reality, not only Vishal Gondal but also Hemant Suthar, a designer from Mumbai, had to wait for six years without any information about receiving the car. Fortunately, he also got his deposit back.

In early 2022, the electric car giant Tesla was still trying to resolve issues related to import duties on electric vehicles in India.

It wasn’t until March that India announced a policy to reduce import taxes on electric vehicles for companies committing to investing at least $500 million (12.5 trillion VND) and starting domestic production within three years. Thanks to this regulation, companies can now import 8,000 electric vehicles per year with a 15% tax rate.

It is known that in the future, Tesla plans to invest $2-3 billion in building a new factory in India.
