The automotive industry in Vietnam is gearing up for an exciting September with the anticipated launch of several new models across various segments, building on the momentum of the vibrant August.
Below is a list of new vehicles expected to hit the Vietnamese market in September 2024:
Kia Carnival
Kia dealers have started accepting bookings for the 2024 Kia Carnival. While the pricing is yet to be announced, sales consultants have revealed that early bird customers can expect discounts ranging from 10 to 20 million VND. The vehicle is expected to be launched by the end of September, with the hybrid version likely to go on sale in October.
Back in July, the 2024 Kia Carnival was spotted undergoing emissions testing at a vehicle inspection center.
This mid-cycle refresh brings notable changes to the exterior, including a distinctive “tiger nose” grille accented with a chrome surround. The new vertical LED headlights feature a stylish T-shaped daytime running light signature. Additional updates include fog lights positioned on either side of the central air intake, electric sliding doors, and a redesigned rear bumper.
The rear of the vehicle is highlighted by LED taillights with a 3D Starmap effect, complemented by a full-width LED strip that extends across the tailgate and down to the redesigned rear bumper, enhancing the overall visual appeal.
Inside, the 2024 Kia Carnival boasts a modern cabin design similar to its EV6 and EV9 siblings. It features a dual-screen setup with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system, along with a head-up display (HUD) for easy access to vital information.
The redesigned climate control panel is more streamlined and user-friendly. The gear selector has been replaced with a rotary dial, adding a touch of elegance. Notable features include a dashcam, smart key, digital side-view mirrors, ergonomic seats with premium leather upholstery, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The interior color scheme is a tasteful two-tone combination, exuding sophistication and class.
Under the hood, the Kia Carnival 2024 continues to offer the familiar 3.5L gasoline and 2.2L diesel engines from the previous model. However, the big news is the introduction of a hybrid powertrain option.
The hybrid system pairs a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 245 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque. According to Kia, this setup achieves a fuel efficiency rating of 14km/l, equivalent to approximately 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
In terms of safety, the Carnival 2024 introduces the Highway Driving Assistance 2 system, which provides semi-autonomous driving assistance by maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, adhering to preset speeds, and keeping the vehicle within its lane. This advanced system now includes lane-changing functionality, marking a significant upgrade over the previous generation.
Hyundai Santa Fe
According to Hyundai dealers, the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe is expected to make its debut in Vietnam in September. Back in July, the vehicle was spotted undergoing emissions testing in Hanoi.
The Hyundai Santa Fe will likely be offered in three or four trim levels in Vietnam. It is anticipated to be available with two engine options: a 2.5L gasoline engine and a 1.6L hybrid powertrain.
Dealers predict that the price will start at around 1.1 billion VND for the hybrid version and go up to 1.4 billion VND for the high-end variant.
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, which made its global debut in August 2023, stands out with its bold and boxy design, marking a significant departure from its predecessor. With dimensions of 4,830 x 1,900 x 1,720 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, the new Santa Fe offers increased interior space. The longer wheelbase results in a more spacious cargo area, increasing from 634 liters to 725 liters (with the third-row seats folded).
The interior of the Santa Fe 2024 exudes simplicity and elegance. A prominent feature is the dual 12.3-inch curved display that seamlessly integrates the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system, angled slightly toward the driver. The Santa Fe 2024 is among the first Hyundai models to feature the brand’s latest “ccNC” infotainment system.
Additional modern conveniences include wireless phone charging, multi-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents mounted on the ceiling, a dual-pane sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with massage functionality, and more.
In Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines, the Hyundai Santa Fe 2024 is offered with two engine choices.
The first is a 2.5L Theta III turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 281 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system (HTRAC). As a result, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
The second option is a 1.6T GDI HEV Gamma III hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup generates a total output of 230 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. With this powertrain, the Santa Fe can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and attain a maximum speed of 190 km/h.
Mitsubishi Triton
Mitsubishi has announced that the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton will officially launch in Vietnam on September 11, 2024. Mitsubishi dealers nationwide are now accepting reservations for this highly anticipated pickup truck.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is built on a new, more robust platform, enhancing its off-road capabilities. With dimensions of 5,320 x 1,865 x 1,795 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, the Triton boasts an impressive presence. The ground clearance ranges from 203 to 222 mm, depending on the variant.
Based on the images shared, the Triton destined for Vietnam appears identical to the model launched in Thailand. It retains the distinctive Dynamic Shield design language while incorporating modern refinements for a more contemporary aesthetic.
It remains to be seen if the Vietnamese-spec Triton will have any features omitted. In Thailand, the Triton is equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include a six-speaker audio system, two 12V power outlets, smart key entry, and more.
In terms of safety, the Mitsubishi Triton 2024 is equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).
In Thailand, the Mitsubishi Triton 2024 is offered with two engine options:
The first is a 2.4L MIVEC single-turbo diesel engine that produces 183 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque between 2,250 and 2,500 rpm.
The second option is a 2.4L MIVEC twin-turbo diesel engine that generates 204 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,750 rpm. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The top-of-the-line variant comes with seven drive modes, electronic power steering, and the Super Select II 4WD system, allowing seamless switching between 2H and 4H drive modes.
Honda Civic
Honda sales consultants have started taking bookings for the mid-life update of the Honda Civic, which is expected to be launched in Vietnam in September. Notably, the Honda Vietnam factory has discontinued the import of the current Civic model.
According to dealers, the 2025 Honda Civic will be imported from Thailand and offered in three variants, including a hybrid version named e:HEV.
With the addition of new features, the pricing is expected to be higher than that of the outgoing model, which currently ranges from 730 to 870 million VND.
The 2025 Honda Civic for the Vietnamese market is likely to be offered with two engine options.
The first is a 1.5L turbocharged engine that produces 178 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission.
The second option, exclusive to the high-end variant, is a hybrid powertrain that combines an electric motor with a naturally aspirated 2.0L four-cylinder gasoline engine. The electric motor generates 181 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque, while the gasoline engine produces 141 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque. The hybrid system is mated to an electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) and delivers power to the front wheels.
Unlike traditional hybrid systems where the electric motor plays a supporting role, the Civic e:HEV RS utilizes the gasoline engine primarily as a generator, with the electric motor providing the majority of the propulsion. This results in impressive performance and efficiency, with a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds and a fuel consumption rating of just 4 liters per 100 kilometers, significantly lower than the 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers of the RS gasoline model.
In addition to the new hybrid powertrain, the 2025 Honda Civic receives subtle exterior updates. The grille is now separated from the headlights, and the front air intake has been redesigned. The RS variant sports new 18-inch alloy wheels, while the standard variant retains the 17-inch wheels from the previous model.
The interior of the 2025 Civic remains largely unchanged, but it benefits from technological enhancements. The most notable upgrade is the larger 9-inch infotainment system, which runs Google’s operating system and offers built-in Google services such as maps, voice assistant, and access to the Google Play Store. Other highlights include premium leather upholstery, USB-C ports, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker audio system.
The safety suite has been enhanced with the addition of blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems.
Nissan Almera
Nissan sales consultants have revealed that the 2024 Nissan Almera is expected to arrive in Vietnam in August or September 2024. With August having passed without its launch, it is likely that the Almera will make its debut in September. Nissan dealers in Hanoi have started accepting reservations for this highly anticipated sedan.
The 2024 Nissan Almera will continue to be imported from Thailand. This mid-life update brings subtle design changes, particularly to the front grille.
The V-motion grille has been redesigned with a trapezoidal center section finished in black, while the surrounding slats feature a glossy finish. The latest Nissan logo further accentuates the updated front fascia.
Additionally, the Almera will be fitted with new alloy wheels. The standard variant will feature 15-inch steel wheels with silver wheel covers, while the higher-end variant will be equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels that showcase a sporty two-tone finish.
Nissan has introduced a new exterior color option, Grey Sky Pearl, which can shift between purple and blue hues depending on the lighting conditions. In low light, the color appears purple, while under direct sunlight, it transforms into a vibrant blue.
The interior layout remains largely unchanged. However, the standard variant will now offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration with the optional S Plus package. The SV variant adds a center armrest and wireless charging, while the top-of-the-line SR variant boasts an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated front seats, and remote engine start, among other enhancements.
Powering the 2024 Nissan Almera is the familiar 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 100 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), enabling the Almera to achieve a fuel efficiency rating of 23.3 km/l, equivalent to approximately 4.29 liters per 100 kilometers.
In terms of safety, the Nissan Almera 2024 gains additional features such as a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), high beam assist (HBA), lane departure warning (LDW), and the comprehensive Nissan 360 Safety Shield suite on the top-tier variant.
