A serious pile-up accident that occurred at Phu My Bridge, Thu Duc City, on the evening of August 8, has attracted much public attention due to its severity.

The cause of the accident was determined to be a truck with license plate number 68H-000.68 losing its brakes while descending the bridge slope, leading to a tragic incident.

It is understood that eight cars were involved in the incident, including a truck, two containers, and five other cars with four to seven seats. Three of the vehicles caught fire after the collision.

Among the affected vehicles, the Volvo XC90 that was hit head-on by the truck, and then pushed into the back of a tractor unit, was perhaps the most severe. Although the SUV was almost completely crushed, the remaining frame miraculously held up, allowing the driver to escape. The public quickly rescued the driver from the burning Swedish car.

Volvo has always been renowned as the safest car manufacturer in the world. Notably, the Volvo XC90 consistently achieves perfect scores in safety assessments conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The vehicle’s structure comprises up to 40% boron steel, the strongest steel currently used in the automotive body manufacturing industry. This material is produced through a process of heat treatment and rapid cooling, enabling it to withstand high-impact forces without deformation or breakage.

Additionally, the frame is designed to efficiently absorb collision forces, and the seats are equipped with compression-absorbing springs to prevent back injuries…

Every Volvo XC90, and indeed all Volvo models, come equipped with the world’s best safety features, including Pilot Assist autonomous driving technology, automatic parking assistance, automatic emergency braking to avoid collisions, collision warning systems, road condition safety alerts for drivers, and cross-traffic alerts.
