The much-anticipated Xpeng AeroHT’s Land Aircraft Carrier, a car-and-drone combination, is set to make its public flying debut at the Zhuhai Airshow in November.
The product will be available for purchase later this year, priced at $280,000, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026.
The Land Aircraft Carrier, unveiled by Xpeng AeroHT in 2023, is a unique concept. It consists of a standard-sized electric transport vehicle and a large, detachable drone.
The electric transport vehicle measures 5,500 x 2,000 x 2,000 mm. Its design is futuristic and robust, with hidden door handles and no side-view mirrors. The design may still evolve before mass production.
Powering the transport vehicle is an EREV (Electric Range Extended Vehicle) system based on a high-voltage 800V platform. It uses an internal combustion engine to generate electricity for the electric motor and battery, rather than direct transmission to the wheels. The vehicle offers a combined range of up to 1,000 km and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
The second component of the Land Aircraft Carrier is a large drone capable of autonomous take-off, landing, and docking with the transport vehicle. Its propellers can be folded for compact storage within the vehicle. On a full charge, the drone can make 5-6 flights and supports both manual and automatic flight modes.
To meet the 2026 delivery timeline, Xpeng AeroHT plans to begin construction of an assembly plant this September, with production starting in July 2025. The plant is expected to have an annual capacity of over 10,000 vehicles.
