The Honda Vietnam (HVN) website teases the upcoming launch of a new vehicle on December 22nd, keeping the name under wraps but hinting at its target audience: young, vibrant customers.
A sneak peek at the sole image released by HVN reveals a scooter, with design cues reminiscent of the Honda Vario 160 – a popular choice among Vietnamese riders, as evidenced by its presence in the country’s private import market.
Prior to this teaser, the Vario 160 had already made its way to Vietnam through private importers, generating a buzz among enthusiasts.
HVN already boasts an extensive product portfolio catering to diverse customer segments. However, with the introduction of the Vario 160, they are strategically targeting the youthful demographic that has shown a penchant for stylish scooters like the Vario and Click. This move makes perfect sense, considering the Vario 160’s private import popularity.
The Vario 160 succeeds the Vario 150, offering a refreshed design and enhanced features. It is powered by a 156.9 cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine that produces 15.1 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
The Honda Vario 160 made its global debut in February this year, and within a month, it had already made its way to Vietnam through private dealers. Initially retailing for nearly 75 million VND, the Vario 160 now sits in the 54-58.5 million VND price bracket.
Should Honda decide to offer the Vario 160 through official channels, it will go head-to-head with its sibling, the Air Blade 160, and Yamaha’s NVX. Positioned above the Air Blade 160, the Vario 160 could offer a premium alternative within HVN’s scooter lineup.
