Mazda Sparks Intrigue with ‘CX-6e’ Trademark Registration: Rumors of an All-New Electric SUV Emerge
The recent trademark filing of the name “Mazda CX-6e” on the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office has sparked speculation about an upcoming all-electric SUV from the Japanese automaker.
The naming convention, with the letter “e” likely indicating an electric model, and the number “6” suggesting a position above the CX-5, points to a possible new addition to their SUV lineup rather than an update of an existing model.
Earlier rumors suggested that Mazda was working on the next-generation Mazda CX-5, expected to launch in 2026, which would feature a hybrid powertrain and discontinue the diesel engine. However, the name was expected to remain as CX-5.
This new information all but confirms that the Mazda CX-6e will be an entirely new model.
Some speculate that the CX-6e could be the production version of the Arata concept, first unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. The concept vehicle was larger than the CX-5 and was a collaboration between Mazda and Changan Automobile of China.
While specific details about the CX-6e remain under wraps, Mazda North America’s CEO, Tom Donnelly, has hinted at the launch of a new electric vehicle in 2025, adding fuel to the speculation about the imminent arrival of the all-new electric SUV, CX-6e.
