The Gumball 3000 2024 supercar event is taking place this weekend, and an interesting last-minute addition has been made to the lineup. A Toyota Fortuner has been included in Team 4, where four foreign members previously had no car to participate.
Specifically, this Toyota Fortuner, in the Legender trim, will accompany three Americans and one British participant in the Gumball 3000 2024 event, taking place on September 14, 2024, in Vietnam. It is unclear why this humorous addition was made, but it is possible that the supercar or SUV of these four individuals could not make it to Vietnam in time, hence the use of the Toyota Fortuner.
This seems to be an unprecedented move for the Gumball 3000 event. Typically, vehicles like the Toyota Fortuner are used for support rather than being part of the main teams. However, for this 25th edition, the Fortuner has been included in Team 4. It is likely that this Toyota Fortuner will bear Vietnamese license plates.
The Gumball 3000 2024 journey also marks a memorable 25th anniversary for the event. Initially, the organizers planned to hold it in the Gaza Strip, but due to ongoing conflicts, they canceled those plans and instead chose five ASEAN countries—Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore—as the destinations.

Among the participants in this year’s event are six hypercars and megacars, including the Koenigsegg Regera “Honey” owned by American enthusiast Dan_Am_i, a Pagani Huayra BC Roadster belonging to two Korean enthusiasts (one of whom participated in last year’s Gumball 3000 with a Bugatti Divo), a Bugatti Chiron owned by a Cambodian enthusiast, a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport driven by a Singaporean enthusiast (despite the car bearing Cambodian plates), and lastly, a Porsche Carrera GT from Thailand.
