There are rumors that Tesla is gearing up to unveil an entirely new home wireless charging device. The company has filed for a patent for this product.
Up until now, Tesla has shown little interest in home wireless charging technology, focusing instead on the autonomous capabilities of its electric vehicles. If Teslas can drive themselves, getting them to charge autonomously would be the next logical step.
In the past, Tesla explored the concept of a “robotic snake.” Rather than wireless charging, this involved the car parking itself in a garage, with the charging port and cable (the aforementioned robotic snake) taking care of the rest without any human intervention.
However, in March 2023, Tesla unveiled a charging system integrated with entertainment, dining, and parking facilities. Wireless charging systems were depicted in the accompanying illustrations, clearly showing a charging pad located beneath the electric vehicle.
Recently, Franz von Holzhausen, Chief Designer at Tesla, confirmed that the company is indeed working on a wireless charging pad. The Tesla Cybertruck was also found to have an inductive charging connector, hinting at the possibility of wireless charging for the electric pickup truck.
Tesla has filed for four patents related to wireless charging with international patent offices, covering: a short-circuit switch to reduce leakage current to the ground in inductive charging; temperature sensors and their application in wireless charging; a linkage structure for wireless charging and related manufacturing methods; and parameter estimation for wireless charging.
Tesla is expected to introduce this new wireless charging technology at the upcoming Robotaxi launch in October.
Sure, I can assist with that.
