In recent times, Suzuki has been phasing out several models from the Vietnamese market, including the Ertiga Hybrid and Ciaz. Interestingly, on the official website of Suzuki Vietnam, not only has the Ciaz been removed but also the Swift model. Meanwhile, the Ertiga Hybrid still appears in the company’s product catalog.
The reason for Swift’s disappearance from the official Suzuki Vietnam website is unclear. However, according to previous rumors, the Suzuki Swift will not be discontinued in Vietnam. Instead, the car will be imported directly from Japan and will feature a new hybrid engine. This change is due to the upcoming closure of Suzuki’s Thai factory after 2025.
Suzuki Vietnam’s current product lineup includes the XL7 Hybrid, XL7, Jimny, and Ertiga Hybrid.
In the past, the Suzuki Swift’s sales performance in Vietnam has been modest. In July 2024, Suzuki sold only 8 Swift units in the country. Cumulatively, for the first seven months of this year, the B-segment hatchback achieved sales of just 225 units.
There are several reasons for the Suzuki Swift’s lackluster sales in Vietnam. Firstly, the model has not received any significant design or equipment upgrades for a long time. Additionally, the Swift’s specifications in Vietnam are quite basic and unremarkable, while the pricing is not particularly attractive. Furthermore, the B-segment hatchback market is not very popular in Vietnam, which further contributes to the low sales figures.
If the rumors about importing the Suzuki Swift directly from Japan are true, the vehicle will face higher taxes, resulting in increased selling prices. This could further hinder the Japanese car model’s performance in the Vietnamese market.
The new generation Suzuki Swift.
The new Suzuki Swift has already been launched in several markets worldwide, including Japan and India. The highlight of this model is its new mild hybrid engine, which consists of a 1.2L naturally aspirated 3-cylinder gasoline engine producing 82 horsepower and 108 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 3.1 horsepower/60 Nm electric motor, a 3Ah lithium-ion battery, and either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The car’s fuel efficiency is impressive, with a fuel consumption rate of just 3.93 to 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
In addition to the new engine, the Suzuki Swift has undergone minor design changes and improvements in terms of convenience and safety equipment. In the Japanese market, the car features a 9-inch center touch screen, single-zone automatic air conditioning, a head-up display (HUD), an electronic parking brake, and an automatic temporary brake hold feature.

However, if introduced in Vietnam, the model is expected to have several features omitted.
