Volkswagen Recalls 98,806 ID.4 Electric Vehicles in the US Due to Door Issues

This is an extension of the previous recalls, 23V-312 and 23V-213, that took place in 2023.

The reason for this recall is that the door handles on the Volkswagen ID.4 models produced from 2021 to 2024 did not meet the factory specifications for water intrusion resistance. This allows water to seep into the door’s printed circuit board, causing door malfunctions, including unexpected opening while driving.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries due to this issue, but from June 2023 to May 2024, Volkswagen received 135 warranty claims related to this problem.

The company is currently in the process of recalling the affected vehicles and inspecting or replacing the door handles as necessary. Additionally, a software update has been scheduled for the Volkswagen ID.4 to adjust the door handle parameters.
