The BYD, a Chinese automotive brand, officially launched in Vietnam in July 2024. Currently, BYD offers three electric vehicle models in Vietnam, namely the Seal, Dolphin, and Atto 3.

This year, BYD is expected to introduce new electric vehicle models in Vietnam, including the M6. Local dealerships have started accepting reservations for this pure electric MPV. Prior to its entry into Vietnam, the BYD M6 was already available in other Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Thailand.

The BYD M6 is a pure electric MPV developed based on the Song Max. In the Chinese market, this model is known as the Song Max EV.

The new BYD M6 was officially launched in the Thai market on September 10, 2024.

Positioned in the mid-size MPV segment, the BYD M6 boasts dimensions of 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,690 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. With these specifications, the BYD M6 is set to be a direct competitor to the Haima 7X-E, currently available in Vietnam. Additionally, it will rival other models such as the Toyota Innova Cross and the Hyundai Custin.

As an electric vehicle, the BYD M6 features a closed grille design. Instead, it sports a thick silver trim that connects to the dragon-inspired LED headlights, with the BYD logo integrated within. The front bumper incorporates a relatively wide central air intake and triangular side vents.

The LED headlights of the BYD M6 are designed with a dragon eye motif and come with daytime running lights. Meanwhile, the LED taillights feature a horizontal layout and are connected by a chrome trim strip.

On the sides, the vehicle showcases a prominent character line that stretches from the headlights to the taillights. Additionally, blacked-out pillars create a floating roof effect. Both the spoon-shaped side mirrors and door handles are color-keyed to match the body. The 17-inch alloy wheels feature a multi-spoke design with a two-tone machined finish.

In the Thai market, the BYD M6 is equipped with a panoramic sunroof featuring a UV-blocking shade, as well as an electric tailgate. Chrome accents can also be found on the front and rear bumpers, side sills, and window surrounds, adding a touch of sophistication to the vehicle’s exterior.

The interior of the BYD M6 offers two seating configurations: a 6-seater (2+2+2) and a 7-seater (2+3+2). The rear seats can be folded down to create a spacious cargo area with a capacity of 580 liters.

Notable features of this pure electric MPV in Thailand include a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, leather upholstery with power-adjustable front seats, analog instrument cluster with a TFT multi-information display, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, electronic gear selector, ambient lighting, automatic climate control with PM2.5 air filtration, and an electronic parking brake.

According to dealership sources, the BYD M6 in Vietnam will be equipped with an electric motor generating a maximum output of 163 hp and 310 Nm of torque. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 55.4 kWh, enabling a range of 420 km on a single charge based on the NEDC testing cycle. These specifications are consistent with the Dynamic variant of the BYD M6 offered in Thailand.

The BYD M6 in Vietnam will feature the same electric motor and battery configuration as the standard model sold in Thailand.

The BYD M6 supports both slow AC charging at 7 kW and fast DC charging at 115 kW. With the fast-charging option, it takes 40 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%, and just 28 minutes to go from 30% to 80%.

In terms of safety, the BYD M6 is equipped with hill start assist, electronic stability control, automatic emergency braking, front and rear collision warning systems, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed limit assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, a 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, and six airbags.

The pricing for the BYD M6 in Vietnam remains undisclosed. In Thailand, the standard variant of the BYD M6 is priced at 829,000 Baht (approximately 603 million VND). The vehicle will be imported into Vietnam from China.
