As the sudden downpour subsided in the early afternoon, the rain droplets glistening on the streets of Le Loi Boulevard in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, marked an exciting moment for car enthusiasts. The location, playing host to the Gumball 3000 2024 – the world’s largest supercar event, was about to witness another automotive spectacle.

Among the second batch of cars arriving at Le Loi Boulevard, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS of the new generation stood out as a novelty for Vietnamese car enthusiasts. The rest of the fleet, including the McLaren 765LT and Lamborghini Huracan STO, were familiar sights to the eager crowd.

The street-legal race car, Porsche 911 GT3 RS of the new generation, made its debut at the Monterey Car Week 2022, paying homage to the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7 sports car. This event not only commemorated five decades of the iconic “duck-tail” but also introduced the new generation model to a global audience.

In terms of design, a new central radiator replaced the three radiators of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 991.2, allowing for the integration of new active aerodynamics at the front of the 992-generation street-legal race car.

This design detail enables the car to generate 409 kg of downforce at 200 km/h, double that of its predecessor, and an impressive 860 kg at 285 km/h. Additionally, the car is equipped with a drag-reduction system, a first for a commercial Porsche vehicle.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine, producing 518 horsepower. The engine, derived from racing, features a new camshaft with a single-valve train system, ensuring a thrilling driving experience with each push of the accelerator. Porsche exclusively pairs this engine with a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission.

According to Porsche, the 911 GT3 RS 992 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 296 km/h. While this top speed is slightly lower than that of its predecessor, the braking system is impressive, featuring 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear, along with the largest Porsche ceramic brakes ever offered as an option.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 is lighter than its predecessor due to the extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in its construction, weighing in at just 3,268 kg. Porsche offers a complimentary Clubsport package, which includes a steel roll bar, six-point seat belts, and a handheld fire extinguisher, although this option is not available in the US market.

Additionally, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 is available with the Weissach package, which features carbon fiber finishes on various exterior components and additional CFRP parts such as front and rear roll bars, rear axle covers, and interior roll bars. Customers who opt for the Weissach package can further reduce the vehicle’s weight by choosing the optional magnesium wheels, at an additional cost.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS of the new generation offers three driving modes: normal, sport, and track. The track mode allows drivers to adjust the car’s basic settings, such as front and rear shock absorbers and rear differential, among others. The steering wheel is equipped with four rotary control knobs for personalized settings and a dedicated DRS button.
