The Ultimate Trio: Bugatti Veyron and the Dynamic Ford GT Duo Join “Qua” Vu’s Nearly 200 Billion VND Lineup for Gumball 3000

The 25th edition of Gumball 3000, the world’s largest supercar rally, will officially kick off in Vietnam at 10 am today, September 14, 2024. However, as early as last night, just before midnight, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu’s fleet of supercars was on display.

True to his word, the Chairman of Trung Nguyen brought nearly 20 of his supercars to Gumball 3000 2024 for everyone to admire. This is also the first time that “Qua” Vu has approved such a large fleet of supercars for an event, so it is expected to create some of the most exciting online check-ins at this event.

As soon as the Ferrari fleet of 13 cars (reduced from the previous 15 due to stage space constraints) lined up neatly, car enthusiasts turned their full attention to the trio of masterpieces: the speed king Bugatti Veyron, and the standard and ’67 Heritage Edition Ford GTs.

Among them, the limited-edition Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition, with only 39 units worldwide, bearing the number 39 on its license plate, arrived first at 10:06 pm. The car was quickly transported onto the stage in front of dozens of onlookers, while Trung Nguyen’s team continuously signaled for “Qua” Vu’s personal driver to park the car as quickly as possible.

The Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition arrived in Vietnam in May 2021 and found its first owner a year later. The car was registered with the license plate 51K-339.39, also known as the small god of wealth. However, just a few months later, it was sold again. In early 2023, Mr. Vu purchased this Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition to keep his standard Ford GT company.

The Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition is a special edition launched in 2017 as part of the Heritage Edition collection, which is produced in limited quantities each year. Every year, Ford honors a victory of the predecessor Ford GT40 at the Le Mans races in the 1960s with a new generation of GT models. The current trading price is over $1 million, enough to classify the car as a hypercar, although its overall design remains that of a supercar. There is currently only one Ford GT ’67 Heritage Edition in Vietnam.

Nearly an hour later, the crowd erupted in excitement as the only Bugatti in Vietnam made an appearance. The Veyron, dressed in a black and white coffee-milk livery, was transported to the event by a tow truck, watched by hundreds of people, despite the late hour. The roar of the W16, 8.0-liter engine tore through the night in Ho Chi Minh City.

Although Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu personally selected this Bugatti Veyron for his garage, he has not driven it even once in the past six years, which is surprising. When it first arrived in Vietnam, the Bugatti Veyron had a red and white exterior, but after being purchased by the Chairman of Trung Nguyen in 2018, it was repainted white. Now, it sports a new black and white livery to participate in Gumball 3000 2024.

Only 450 Bugatti Veyrons were produced worldwide, and compared to many standard models, this “speed king” in Mr. Vu’s garage, along with the McLaren Senna, Porsche 918 Spyder, and standard Ford GT, stands out with its headlamps modified to resemble those of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, as well as its new custom rims, specially prepared for display at the world’s largest supercar rally.

The “engine” of the Bugatti Veyron is a 16-cylinder, 2 V8 engines arranged in a W shape, with a displacement of 8 liters, 64 valves, 4 camshafts, and 4 turbochargers, producing a maximum power of 1,001 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,250 Nm.

This “heart” is combined with a 7-speed gearbox, allowing the Bugatti Veyron to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds. It takes only 3.8 seconds to reach 200 km/h from a standstill. The top speed of the standard Bugatti Veyron is 408.84 km/h.

The rims on the Bugatti Veyron are chrome-plated and shiny. After traveling approximately 16,000 km, the owner is estimated to spend $55,000 on a new set of rims. Additionally, the Veyron’s tires need to be replaced every 4,000 km, which can cost up to $33,000. It is clear that the maintenance costs of the Bugatti Veyron are extremely high, and this supercar is only suitable for collectors.

The last car from Trung Nguyen to participate in Gumball 3000 2024 is the standard Ford GT, which differs from the special edition with its emerald green paint and double white stripes. It also features a set of expensive carbon fiber rims. The car was transported to the event just before midnight. The exterior color of this Ford GT is dark red.

Mr. Vu unboxed this supercar when it arrived in Vietnam, and although many car enthusiasts have imported this car from showrooms, the selling price of this Ford GT is said to be over VND 60 billion. It was registered with the same license plate number as the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, which is also on display at Gumball 3000 2024.

The new-generation Ford GT supercar is equipped with Ford’s most powerful EcoBoost engine. This “heart” is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with twin-turbochargers, producing a maximum power of 647 horsepower for models produced up to 2019. In 2020, the Ford GT’s power was upgraded to 660 horsepower, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Gumball 3000 2024 supercar rally will take place in Vietnam for two days, September 14 and 15. The fleet will depart tomorrow morning to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels before proceeding to the Moc Bai border gate in Tay Ninh province to cross into Cambodia and continue the journey to Thailand, Malaysia, and finally, Singapore.

Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu’s fleet is only on display and will not be joining the Gumball 3000 2024 rally. The cars will return to Thu Duc City after the event, so this is a great opportunity for car enthusiasts to admire a small part of this businessman’s collection of nearly 700 cars.
