Volkswagen has just released the first teaser video of its upcoming Tayron SUV, set to debut on October 10. Positioned as the successor to the Tiguan Allspace, the Tayron will slot between the smaller Tiguan and the larger Touareg in the German brand’s current lineup.

The video released by VW offers a glimpse of the Tayron’s rear end, featuring a sleek LED light bar spanning the width of the tailgate. The Volkswagen logo at the back is backlit, adding a modern touch. The European version of the Tayron is expected to share a nearly identical design with the Tayron L, which was recently launched in China in August.

According to information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Volkswagen Tayron L has an overall length of 4,684 mm, making it 133 mm longer than the standard Tiguan. The international version of the Tayron is likely to have a similar configuration but will offer a 7-seat layout instead of the 5-seat arrangement in the Chinese market.

Based on the MQB Evo platform, shared with the Tiguan and Passat, the VW Tayron is expected to be offered with electrified powertrains for the European market. In contrast, the Chinese-market Tayron L is equipped with traditional internal combustion engines, including 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline options.

Following the trend of other VW models in Europe, the Tayron is likely to feature mild-hybrid and PHEV systems, alongside traditional gasoline and diesel engines. A potential high-performance variant could utilize a PHEV powertrain with a 1.5L gasoline engine, producing a combined output of 268 horsepower.

Volkswagen will reveal detailed specifications and engine options for the Tayron at its launch. The SUV will compete against rivals such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Everest, and Kia Sorento.
