Mazda Vietnam has recently removed one of the variants of the Mazda6 sedan from its website. Specifically, the 2.5L engine option is no longer available in the Vietnamese market, leaving only two versions of this D-segment sedan: 2.0L Luxury and 2.0L Premium.

Currently, the 2.0L Luxury is priced at VND 769 million, while the 2.0L Premium version costs VND 809 million.

With this price range, the Mazda6 has become the most affordable car in its segment. Its competitors, such as the Kia K5, are priced between VND 859-999 million, the Toyota Camry ranges from VND 1,105 billion to VND 1,495 billion, and the sole Honda Accord variant is priced at VND 1,319 billion.

In the first six months of the year, Mazda6 sold only 237 units, making it one of the slowest-selling models for the brand in Vietnam. Its sales performance was only better than the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck, which is temporarily discontinued in the local market, with a sales figure of 5 units.

Most of its competitors in the D-segment sedan category are also facing challenges. During the same period, Kia K5 sold 132 units, while Honda Accord sold 48 units. Toyota Camry was the only model with relatively stable sales, recording 660 units sold in the first half of the year.

Previously, Carscoops reported that Mazda would stop producing the Mazda6 in Japan from April. This D-segment sedan has already been discontinued in North America and the United Kingdom since 2021 and 2023, respectively.

Mr. Kazuyoshi Todo, head of Mazda’s domestic sales division, stated that the D-segment sedan embodies the brand’s DNA.

“The Atenza and Mazda6 have been beloved by customers for an extended period, with a total of 226,437 units sold in Japan since its launch,” said Mr. Kazuyoshi Todo.

He also confirmed that the replacement for the Mazda6 would be the CX crossover models. Currently, Mazda is said to be focusing more on producing high-riding vehicles.
