B-segment Sedan Sales Table for August 2024 (units: cars)

Toyota Vios: 1,010 units

August 2024, which coincided with the seventh lunar month, saw a general dip in sales across most models, and the Toyota Vios was no exception. Toyota sold 1,010 units of the Vios, a decrease of 42.1% compared to the previous month. Despite this, the Vios remains the best-selling model in the B-segment sedan category. Additionally, the cumulative sales for the first eight months of this year have finally surpassed those of the Hyundai Accent.

Toyota Vios

The Toyota Vios is currently priced between VND 458 million and VND 545 million. For the month of September, the B-segment sedan from Toyota benefits from a 50% reduction in registration fees subsidized by the government. Combined with the brand’s own promotions, the Vios effectively has its registration fees fully covered, resulting in savings of VND 46 million to VND 54 million. This incentive program is expected to boost the model’s sales performance in the remaining months of the year.

The Toyota Vios available in Vietnam boasts notable features such as LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, a larger 9-inch central touchscreen display with smartphone connectivity, a USB Type-C port for rear passengers, seven airbags, a pre-collision warning system, and a lane departure alert system.

Under the hood, the Vios is powered by a 1.5L inline-four gasoline engine that delivers 107 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.

Hyundai Accent: 937 units

The Hyundai Accent sold 937 units in August, a slight decrease of 4.8% compared to the previous month. As a result, this Korean model continues to trail behind its rival, the Toyota Vios.

Hyundai Accent

The all-new Hyundai Accent made its debut in Vietnam back in May 2024, offering four different trim levels with prices ranging from VND 439 million to VND 569 million. As a locally assembled vehicle, the Accent qualifies for the government’s 50% registration fee support program.

The latest generation of the Hyundai Accent has undergone a complete transformation in terms of design, equipment, and engine performance. The vehicle is equipped with LED lighting from front to back, 16-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch central touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, rear air vents, and wireless phone charging.

Furthermore, the Accent has been significantly upgraded in terms of safety features, now including six airbags, a rearview camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, adaptive high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, and leading vehicle departure alert.

At the heart of the Hyundai Accent is a 1.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.

Mazda2: 442 units

As mentioned earlier, the Mazda2 is the only B-segment sedan that experienced positive sales growth, selling 442 units, an increase of 4%. This performance has propelled the model ahead of the Honda City, securing third place in the segment.

Mazda2

As a fully imported model, the Mazda2 does not qualify for the government’s 50% registration fee support program, which is valid for three months from September 1 to November 30, 2024. However, Mazda is offering a 50% registration fee discount for this model, ranging from VND 20 million to VND 32 million, depending on the trim level and registration province or city.

The Mazda2 Sedan has a very attractive price range of VND 408 million to VND 508 million. For this price, customers will enjoy notable features such as LED lighting, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch central touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system, paddle shifters, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a blind-spot monitoring system, and a rear cross-traffic alert system.

The Mazda2 is powered by a 1.5L Skyactiv-G four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 110 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Honda City: 421 units

August 2024 proved to be a challenging month for the Honda City, with sales dipping by 43.4% to only 421 units. As a result, this B-segment sedan slipped to fourth place in the category.

Honda City

As of September 1, 2024, Honda has adjusted the City’s price range to VND 499 million to VND 569 million, reflecting a reduction of VND 40 million to VND 60 million from the initial prices.

In addition to the reduced price, the Honda City also qualifies for the government’s 50% registration fee support program. With this incentive, customers can save an additional VND 25 million to VND 28 million. These attractive offers are expected to significantly boost the sales performance of this B-segment sedan in the remaining months of 2024.

Compared to its competitors in the segment, the Honda City has a higher price point. However, it justifies this premium by offering a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems as standard. Specifically, the Honda City comes equipped with a collision mitigation braking system, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and a front vehicle departure notification system.

The Honda City is powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC four-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine that produces 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque across all three trim levels. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Mitsubishi Attrage: 233 units

Similar to most of its competitors in the segment, the Mitsubishi Attrage experienced a decline in sales compared to the previous month, selling 233 units, a decrease of 5.6%. As a result, its position within the B-segment sedan category remains unchanged.

Mitsubishi Attrage

As a fully imported model, the Mitsubishi Attrage does not qualify for the government’s 50% registration fee support program. Instead, the brand is offering a 50% registration fee discount for the MT, CVT, and CVT Premium trim levels, ranging from VND 16 million to VND 24 million. Additionally, a VND 10 million fuel voucher is available for all three trim levels, while the CVT and CVT Premium trims come with a VND 1.5 million shark fin antenna, and the MT trim includes a VND 2.5 million rearview camera.

The Mitsubishi Attrage currently has one of the most affordable price ranges in the segment, starting from VND 380 million to VND 490 million. Unfortunately, the model falls short in terms of design, convenience features, safety equipment, and engine performance.

The Mitsubishi Attrage is powered by a 1.2L MIVEC three-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 77 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an INVECS continuously variable transmission.

Kia Soluto: 19 units

Consistent with previous months, the Kia Soluto remains at the bottom of the B-segment sedan category in terms of sales performance, selling only 19 units in August 2024, a decrease of 50%. This model experienced the highest rate of decline in the segment.

Kia Soluto

The Kia Soluto, being locally assembled, benefits from the government’s 50% reduction in registration fees. Additionally, it has a competitive price range of VND 386 million to VND 482 million. However, the model falls short in terms of exterior design, convenience features, and safety equipment.

The Kia Soluto is equipped with a 1.4L four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 94 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
