According to Carscoops, Ford is currently the top automaker conducting recalls in the US market for 2024, both in terms of the number of vehicles affected and the number of recall campaigns issued. Previously, in the 2021-2023 period, Ford also consecutively topped the list of automakers with the most vehicle recalls in the US.
Last year, Ford issued 54 recall orders for a total of nearly 5.7 million vehicles in the US. However, in just the first six months of 2024, Ford and its subsidiary Lincoln have carried out 31 recalls, affecting nearly 3.7 million cars, trucks, and SUVs.
Carscoops noted that Ford became the best-selling automaker in the US last year, with approximately 1.9 million vehicles sold to American customers. Toyota followed closely with 1.89 million vehicles, while General Motors, with its Chevrolet and GMC brands, achieved a total sales volume of 2.2 million vehicles.
Nevertheless, in the first half of this year, Ford has recalled more vehicles than all of General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Volkswagen, and BMW combined in the US market.
Some of the significant and notable recalls conducted by Ford in the first half of 2024 include more than half a million F-150 pickup trucks requiring software adjustments to prevent unexpected shifts into first gear. Additionally, numerous Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles have been recalled due to 12-volt battery issues caused by electrical problems.
Carscoops reported that Tesla is the second-highest automaker in terms of recalls in the US, after Ford. The electric car company has issued eight recall orders, affecting over 2.5 million vehicles in the first six months of 2024. However, a significant portion of Tesla’s recalls can be addressed through online software updates.
Chrysler ranks third on the list, with 28 recall campaigns impacting nearly 2.25 million vehicles in the US. In the first half of 2024, Kia, Honda (including Acura), and Toyota (including the luxury brand Lexus) have all issued recalls for over a million vehicles, trucks, and SUVs in the US market.
