Sales decline is a common trend in the overall Vietnamese automotive market, including the A-segment SUV sector. In the past August 2024, only one model saw positive growth, namely the Hyundai Venue.

A-SUV sales table for August 2024 (unit: cars)

VinFast VF5 Plus: Approximately 2,200 cars

Since 2023, Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast has switched to announcing sales figures on a quarterly basis. At the same time, VinFast no longer discloses specific sales figures for each model. However, in the last two months, VinFast has continuously announced the sales of this A-segment SUV.

Accordingly, in September 2024, VinFast sold approximately 2,200 VF5 Plus vehicles, down 15.3% from the previous month. With this sales figure, VinFast VF5 Plus leads the A-segment SUV market and ranks second in the overall market. In the first eight months of this year, the VinFast VF5 Plus was the best-selling model in the entire Vietnamese market with cumulative sales of 17,200 vehicles.

VinFast VF5 Plus

In early July 2024, VinFast launched an upgraded version of the VF5 Plus. The 2024 edition features new, more fashionable colors.

The VinFast VF5 Plus is currently priced at VND 468-479 million if leased with a battery and VND 548-559 million if purchased with a battery. For buyers who choose to lease the battery, the cost will be VND 1.2 million if driving less than 1,500 km/month; VND 1.6 million for 1,500 – 3,000 km/month, and VND 2.7 million for over 3,000 km/month.

This “made in Vietnam” electric car is equipped with an electric motor that delivers a maximum output of 134 horsepower and a peak torque of 135 Nm, making it the most powerful A-segment SUV in Vietnam. In addition, the car also boasts a range of 326.4 km on a single charge according to the NEDC test cycle.

Kia Sonet: 430 cars

In August 2024, the Kia Sonet achieved sales of 430 units, a decrease of 12.6%. This model ranked second in the A-SUV segment but was far behind the VinFast VF5 Plus.

Kia Sonet

In June 2024, this A-segment SUV received an upgraded version with prices ranging from VND 539 to 624 million. While the car is priced higher than its competitors in the same segment, it also offers a more fashionable and modern design, along with relatively adequate convenience and safety features.

The high-end Kia Sonet is equipped with an LED lighting system, 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, navigation maps, a sunroof, a six-speaker audio system, cruise control, and manual speed limit assist.

Under the hood of this model is a 1.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces a maximum output of 113 horsepower and a peak torque of 144 Nm, unchanged from the previous version. The engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission that simulates eight gears.

Hyundai Venue: 297 cars

In August, the Hyundai Venue was the only A-segment SUV to experience sales growth. Accordingly, the model sold 297 vehicles, an increase of 2.4%. With this result, the Hyundai Venue has surprisingly climbed to third place in the segment, surpassing the Toyota Raize.

Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue had its listed price adjusted downwards to VND 499 million for the 1.0 Turbo version and VND 539 million for the 1.0 Turbo Special version since June 2024. In addition to its attractive pricing, this Korean model also boasts appealing design and features.

The Hyundai Venue is equipped with an LED lighting system, 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen entertainment system, Android Auto/Apple Carplay support, a Type-C USB charging port, a six-speaker audio system, push-button start, smart key, automatic air conditioning with rear air vents, six airbags, a rearview camera, parking sensors, cruise control, speed limit control, tire pressure monitoring sensors, and automatic headlights.

The highlight of the Hyundai Venue lies in its engine. This model is powered by a 1.0L inline three-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 120 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Toyota Raize: 296 cars

The Toyota Raize was the A-segment SUV with the highest decline in sales. The model sold 296 units in August 2024, a decrease of 24.6%. This result pushed the Toyota Raize to the bottom of the A-SUV segment.

Toyota Raize

The Toyota Raize is the most affordable model in the A-SUV segment, priced at VND 498 million. However, it only offers one version, providing limited choices for customers. Moreover, as the only A-segment SUV imported as a whole unit, the Toyota Raize faces challenges in supply stability and does not benefit from government support for registration fees like its domestically assembled competitors.

In terms of equipment, the Toyota Raize in Vietnam is not far behind its competitors in the same segment. It features an LED lighting system, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch central touchscreen display, push-button start, automatic air conditioning, hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert with four front/rear sensors, and six airbags.

The Japanese model is powered by a 1.0L turbocharged engine that produces a maximum output of 98 horsepower and a peak torque of 140 Nm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
