The Gumball 3000, one of the world’s most renowned supercar rallies, is coming to Vietnam with over 100 supercars, hypercars, sports cars, tuned cars, and JDM icons in tow.
Gumball 3000 is a world-class supercar rally that has long been famous for its events in major cities across Europe and North America. This year, for the first time in history, the entire rally is being held in Asia, with Vietnam chosen as the starting point for the journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore.
This is a rare opportunity for Vietnamese enthusiasts to witness some of the world’s most valuable supercars and meet famous personalities from various fields.
The highlight of the event is the Gumball Grid supercar display, which took place on September 14, 2024, at Le Loi Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Dubbed the “world’s most expensive car park,” the event featured 120 supercars and sports cars from around the world, including several special limited-edition models.
The owners of these cars are also notable figures with significant influence, including music stars, famous artists, royalty, sports stars, gamers, YouTubers, and entrepreneurs.
Many familiar names to the Vietnamese public were in attendance, such as Manchester United and French national team football legend Patrice Evra, who arrived in a luxurious Rolls Royce Cullinan. Australian YouTuber Lazarbeam, Lachlan Power, and English YouTuber Sidemen Vikkstar drove a Land Rover Defender, while American YouTuber DailyDrivenExotics (DDE) made an appearance with a Lamborghini SVJ.
Although he did not participate in the world’s largest supercar rally, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu, Chairman of the Trung Nguyen Coffee Group, brought 18 supercars (including 15 Ferraris, 2 Ford GTs, and 1 Bugatti Veyron) to the Gumball 3000 2024 event to promote Vietnamese culture.
The event’s founder, Maximillion Cooper, shared, “Among the 500 people joining Gumball 3000 this year, many are experiencing the beauty of Vietnam for the first time. Even though it’s just a short visit, we hope to create a memorable impression for everyone and spread more positivity in life.”
During the press conference, Mr. Cooper expressed his deep sympathy for the Vietnamese people affected by the natural disasters in the northern provinces. To show solidarity and support for the people in the north, the scale of the Gumball 3000 event was reduced, and the music festival was canceled, retaining only the car display.
Additionally, the Gumball 3000 founder launched a campaign to encourage participants and interested individuals worldwide to donate and support the people of Vietnam in recovering from the floods.
On September 14, the Gumball participants raised approximately $25,000 (around 614.25 million VND). The Vietnam support campaign will continue throughout the journey, with the donation link shared on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and promoted by influential figures like Patrice Evra. The final donation amount will be announced after September 23 and handed over to the Fatherland Front of District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.
On the morning of September 15, the cars gathered at Le Loi Boulevard in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. At 11 a.m., Gumball 3000 – Saigon to Singapore officially commenced with a flag-off ceremony, marking the start of the first leg of the journey towards the famous Cu Chi Tunnels.
The rally then moved on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and continued through Angkor Wat (Cambodia) – Bangkok, Krabi (Thailand) – Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), concluding in Singapore on September 21, 2024, coinciding with the F1 Singapore Grand Prix global event taking place on the same dates (September 20-22, 2024).
In the past, Gumball 3000 has attracted some of the world’s richest individuals. The event has seen the participation of 70 billionaires, including notable figures recognized by Forbes, such as the founder of Facebook and the CEO of Paypal.
