It’s not Ford but Tesla that holds the record for the most vehicles recalled in the first half of this year. Since June, the American electric carmaker has recalled nearly 1.85 million of its cars due to software glitches.
Specifically, Tesla has announced a recall of all its vehicles produced from 2013 to 2024, including the Model S (2013-2024), Model X (2016-2024), Model 3 (2017-2024), and Model Y (2020-2024).
According to Carscoop, the affected vehicles are unable to detect whether the hood is open or closed and do not alert the driver accordingly. While each Tesla is equipped with a safety latch that prevents the hood from flipping over and blocking the windshield, there is still a risk of the hood collapsing and obstructing the driver’s view while on the highway.
Fortunately, Tesla owners won’t need to bring their cars to a dealership as the company has already deployed a software update to fix the issue since June.
With this additional 1.85 million vehicles recalled in this round, Tesla has now recalled a total of 4.4 million cars with 31 recall campaigns spanning from January to June this year.
Previously, Ford held the top spot for the most recalled vehicles, affecting over 3.66 million cars in just eight recall campaigns. However, in the following six months, it remains to be seen whether Ford will announce further recalls or cede the position to Tesla.
