According to Carscoops, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe sold in the US has been recalled once again amidst a sales halt for this SUV model. The issue pertains to the unintended deployment of the second-row airbags, which may also fail to deploy in the event of a collision.
This recall affects 49,719 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles manufactured between December 2023 and July 2024. The recall notice states that the main cable on the floor may come into contact with the second-row seat hinge assembly, leading to potential damage. If this occurs, the airbags may inadvertently deploy and/or fail to deploy during a crash.
The recall announcement highlights the increased risk of injury or death for passengers due to this issue. It attributes the cause to the inconsistent routing of the floor cable and the improper securing of the cables.

As per Carscoops, Hyundai technicians will inspect and secure the cables at the dealership. If any damage is found, the cables will be replaced free of charge. The repair process will involve sliding the second-row seats forward to locate and address the cable damage. If no damage is found, technicians will secure the cables with two cable ties.
This recall was initiated following the discovery of an incident in South Korea, where an airbag inadvertently deployed in a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. Hyundai’s investigation uncovered eight separate incidents in the US, all occurring this year, but the company stated that no injuries or accidents have been reported.
Regarding the sales halt, Hyundai dealerships in the US have been instructed not to deliver vehicles to customers until the recalls are completed.
