There has been recent excitement and anticipation among businesses and individuals regarding the potential legalization of mobile homes, also known as “Mobile Home” vehicles.

The Ministry of Transport has been seeking feedback on a draft circular issuing technical regulations on quality, safety, and environmental protection standards for automobiles, including detailed provisions on the equipment for mobile homes.

Although the draft has not yet been officially approved, many are optimistic about the possibility of openly using and upgrading their vehicles.

In recent years, with improved living standards, there has been a growing demand for “mobile homes” that allow individuals to comfortably travel, camp, and enjoy their leisure activities without worrying about accommodation or daily necessities.

Converting a regular vehicle into a mobile home or purchasing a new one can be costly, leading some families to opt for renting options to gain the experience.

Entrepreneurs have seized this opportunity by introducing vehicles equipped with awnings and convenient features, resembling miniature homes, to cater to their customers’ needs. They eagerly await the government’s approval of the draft regulations to openly operate their mobile home vehicles.

Most “mobile homes” currently on the roads in Vietnam are converted vehicles, and many do not meet the registration requirements.
To navigate this legal gray area, owners may classify their vehicles as cargo carriers when encountered by traffic police. However, during registration inspections, they must dismantle the added components to comply with regulations, which is a time-consuming and costly process.

With a clear legal framework in place, this vehicle category will boost the market and stimulate various industries, including vehicle manufacturing, conversion, and mobile home interior design.
