The world of specialty license plates has been abuzz recently as the coveted quintuple-9 plate of the 30K series was put up for auction again, this time for the third time in 5 months. It is hoped that the saying “third time’s the charm” will ring true and that this unique plate will finally find a permanent owner who will fulfill all financial obligations without the need for a fourth auction.
Specifically, during the auction held on September 26, 2024, an anonymous bidder offered a staggering 22.37 billion VND for the 30K-999.99 plate, successfully winning the auction for this desirable number.
Previously, the coveted 30K-999.99 plate had also gone under the hammer in a second auction, with the highest bid reaching over 30 billion VND, but the winner defaulted on the payment. In its first auction, the plate fetched an impressive 75 billion VND, equivalent to the price of four Lamborghini Urus Performantes.
According to regulations, the winner of the auction for the license plate will have to pay the full amount within 15 days of the announcement of the results. This amount includes the 40 million VND deposit but excludes vehicle registration fees.
Subsequently, within 12 months, the successful bidder must register the plate to a vehicle. If this deadline is not met, the license plate will be returned to the vehicle registration and management system, and the auction winner will not be refunded the amount paid.
