In a recent announcement, Caterham revealed that their upcoming sports car, the Project V, will feature an electric powertrain developed by Yamaha. The car is expected to launch in 2025.

Caterham Project V is positioned to compete directly with the Porsche 718 Cayman in the sports car segment.

The concept version of the Project V was first introduced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over a year ago. At that time, Caterham did not disclose details about the car’s powertrain, only revealing that it would produce 268 horsepower and accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds.

While Yamaha has not produced commercial cars, they are highly regarded in the automotive industry for their expertise in weight optimization, gained through their extensive experience in the two-wheeler domain.

In fact, Yamaha has also developed engines for a few other automotive brands. Previously, they equipped the Subaru STI E-RA race car with their four ‘Hyper EV’ engines, each producing 268 horsepower (matching the Project V concept), resulting in a combined output of 1,058 horsepower.

More recently, Yamaha signed a technical partnership with the Lola Formula E racing team to support their participation in the upcoming December race.
