Hyundai recently announced its third-quarter sales figures for 2024 in the US market, with a particular focus on the sales performance of their compact SUV, the Hyundai Tucson.
In the third quarter of this year, American consumers purchased a total of 53,801 Tucsons, a 2% increase compared to the same period last year. Even more impressively, the Hyundai Tucson outsold the combined sales of four other automotive brands: Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Dodge, and Chrysler. The cumulative sales of these four Stellantis-owned brands for the third quarter of 2024 amounted to only 51,406 vehicles.

Of the above four brands, Fiat performed the worst, selling only an average of 100 vehicles per month in the US market. In the third quarter, the Italian brand sold just 316 vehicles. Alfa Romeo fared slightly better, selling 2,049 vehicles during the same period.
Chrysler, on the other hand, sold 22,482 vehicles in the past three months, a 47% decrease compared to the previous year. Despite being a well-established brand in the US market, Chrysler’s sales figures pale in comparison to that of a single Hyundai model.
This situation can be partly attributed to Chrysler’s limited production and sales of only two models in the third quarter: the 300 and the Pacifica. The Chrysler 300 has since been discontinued, and the brand is preparing for the return of the Voyager.
Lastly, Dodge sold a total of 26,559 vehicles in the third quarter of this year, a 43% decrease year-over-year. This decline can be linked to the discontinuation of their famous Dodge Charger and Challenger models. Stellantis’ confusing business strategy, which failed to immediately introduce replacement models for the Charger and Challenger, left a significant gap in Dodge’s product lineup, resulting in a sharp drop in sales.
The four Stellantis brands might feel envious of Hyundai’s performance. In the third quarter of 2024, Hyundai sold 210,971 vehicles to American customers, a 5% increase. Cumulative sales from the beginning of 2024 to the present have reached 610,494 vehicles, a 2% increase.
The best-selling Hyundai model in the US market for the third quarter of 2024 was the Tucson, followed by the Elantra with sales of 39,329 units, a 21% increase. The Palisade came in third with 28,045 units sold, a 44% increase. Meanwhile, sales of the Hyundai Santa Fe decreased by 23% to 27,059 units, despite record-breaking sales for the hybrid version.
The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 sold 11,590 units in the third quarter, a slight 1% decrease. Its counterpart, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, experienced a more significant decline, with sales dropping by 57% to 2,185 units.
The Hyundai Tucson currently on sale in the US market is the newest upgraded version. This updated model is expected to be launched in the Vietnamese market in October 2024. Prior to this, the 2025 Hyundai Tucson was spotted on the roads of Vietnam.
