After a two-year hiatus from the Vietnamese market, the KTM RC 390 sportsbike is back. For this new generation, the Austrian manufacturer has named this model the RC 390 NG (New Generation).
Compared to its predecessor, the RC 390 NG boasts a complete redesign and additional features. The new headlight cluster has a more familiar and visually appealing design. KTM claims that the new wind fairing improves aerodynamics and helps direct hot air from the engine away from the rider, enhancing comfort.
The RC 390 NG’s handling has been refined with the inclusion of WP APEX suspension at the front and rear, both of which are adjustable. This is considered a strong point for the KTM model when compared to rivals such as the Yamaha YZF-R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 400.
Powering the RC 390 NG is a single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 373 cc. This powerplant delivers 44 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 37 Nm at 7,000 rpm. While peak power remains the same as the previous generation, it is achieved 500 rpm earlier, and torque has been improved by 2 Nm.
The KTM RC 390 NG is equipped with traction control, cornering ABS, and an electronic throttle. Additionally, it features a Supermoto ABS function that allows the rider to disable the rear wheel ABS. KTM Vietnam also offers the Quickshift+ quickshifter as an optional extra.
Priced at 209 million VND in Vietnam, the KTM RC 390 NG is significantly more expensive than its predecessor, which retailed for 149 million VND. In its segment, the RC 390 NG competes with the Yamaha YZF-R3 (132 million VND) and the Kawasaki Ninja 400 (159 million VND), among others.
The price of the RC 390 NG may give potential buyers pause, as this budget can offer motorcycles with larger cylinder displacements. However, if you’re seeking a tech-laden sportsbike that doesn’t compromise on power, the KTM RC 390 NG is a sensible choice.
