According to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the total market sales in September set a record with 36,585 units sold.
This figure is a 45% increase from August (25,196 units) and a 44% surge compared to the same period last year (24,687 units). This is also the highest vehicle sales figure so far this year.
The government’s policy to support a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically produced and assembled cars, effective from September 1, 2024, for three months, has largely contributed to this growth.
Here are the top 10 best-selling cars in September 2024:
**Mitsubishi Xpander: 2,688 units**
Mitsubishi Xpander surged from 6th place last month to record 2,688 sales in September, a 2.6-fold increase from August (1,003 units) and a 40% rise from September 2023. Cumulative sales of the Xpander in the first nine months of 2024 reached 12,956 units.
Mitsubishi offers the Xpander in Vietnam with four trim levels: MT, AT, AT Premium, and Xpander Cross, priced between VND 560 million and VND 698 million.
**Mazda CX-5: 1,856 units**
Ranking second in the top 10 best-selling cars in September was the Mazda CX-5, with 1,856 units sold. Cumulative sales of the Mazda CX-5 in the first nine months reached 9,240 units, a 14.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.
The Mazda CX-5 is locally assembled in Vietnam and offered in three trim levels, priced between VND 749 million and VND 829 million.
**Toyota Vios: 1,842 units**
Toyota Vios sales surged to 1,842 units in September, an 82.4% increase compared to August (1,010 units), propelling it to third place in the top 10 best-selling cars. Cumulative sales of the Vios in the first nine months of 2024 totaled 8,812 units, a 17.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Toyota Vios is currently offered in Vietnam with three trim levels, priced between VND 458 million and VND 545 million.
**Mitsubishi Xforce: 1,821 units**
Mitsubishi Xforce sales in September reached 1,821 units, a 27.3% decrease from August (2,504 units). Cumulative sales in the first nine months totaled 9,963 units.
The Xforce is currently imported from Indonesia as a completely built unit (CBU) and offered in four trim levels: GLX, Exceed, Premium, and Ultimate, with prices ranging from VND 599 million to VND 705 million.
**Honda City: 1,590 units**
After several months of absence from the top 10, Honda City re-entered the ranking in September with 1,590 units sold, a 3.8-fold increase from August (421 units). Cumulative sales of the City in the first nine months of 2024 reached 6,071 units.
Honda City is currently offered in Vietnam in three trim levels (G, L, and RS) with prices ranging from VND 559 million to VND 609 million.
**Ford Ranger: 1,473 units**
Ford Ranger sales in September reached 1,473 units, a 15.6% increase from August (1,274 units). However, the Ranger’s ranking dropped by four positions compared to August. Cumulative sales of the Ford Ranger in the first nine months of 2024 reached 11,766 units.
Ford Vietnam offers the Ranger in seven trim levels, with prices ranging from VND 669 million to VND 1.299 billion.
**Hyundai Accent: 1,290 units**
Ranking seventh in the top 10 best-selling cars in September was the Hyundai Accent, with 1,290 units sold, a 37.6% increase from August (937 units). Cumulative sales of the Accent in the first nine months of 2024 reached 8,200 units.
The Hyundai Accent is currently offered in four trim levels, with prices ranging from VND 439 million to VND 569 million.
**Toyota Veloz Cross: 1,147 units**
Toyota Veloz Cross sales in September reached 1,147 units, a 2.1-fold increase from August (538 units). Cumulative sales in the first nine months of 2024 totaled 5,218 units.
The Veloz Cross is currently locally assembled in Vietnam with two trim levels, priced at VND 638 million and VND 660 million, respectively.
**Hyundai Creta: 1,068 units**
Ranking ninth in the top 10 best-selling cars in September was the Hyundai Creta, with 1,068 units sold, a 74.2% increase from August (613 units).
Cumulative sales of the Creta in the first nine months of 2024 totaled 5,181 units.
Hyundai Creta is locally assembled at TC Motor’s Ninh Binh plant and offered in three trim levels, priced between VND 599 million and VND 699 million.
**Kia Carnival: 1,023 units**
Ranking tenth in September was the Kia Carnival, with 1,023 units sold. Cumulative sales of the Carnival from the beginning of 2024 to the present reached 4,276 units, a 13.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Kia Carnival is currently offered in Vietnam in four trim levels, with prices ranging from VND 1.299 billion to VND 1.589 billion.
