According to a report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), the total market sales in September reached a record high with 36,585 units sold.

This figure marks a 45% increase compared to August (25,196 units) and a 44% surge from the same period last year (24,687 units). It also stands as the highest vehicle sales figure so far this year.

Breaking it down, passenger car sales reached 28,973 units (up 51% from August), commercial vehicles recorded 7,367 units (a 25% increase), and specialized vehicles accounted for 245 units (a 48% jump).

By the end of September, domestic assembled vehicle sales reached 19,500 units, a 62% increase compared to August, while completely built-up imported vehicles achieved sales of 17,085 units, a 30% rise.

Cumulative sales for the first nine months of the year, as per VAMA’s statistics, stood at 225,583 units, reflecting a 6.94% increase compared to the same period in 2023 (209,927 units).

Notably, according to VAMA’s statistics, Toyota currently leads the market with September sales of 7,143 units, a 49% increase compared to August. Mitsubishi follows closely with 5,385 units delivered to customers (up 32%). Kia secured the third position with sales of 4,015 units (up 79%), while Ford and Honda ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with sales of 3,967 and 3,607 units. (It’s worth mentioning that VinFast delivered over 9,300 units in September, and Hyundai sold 6,518 vehicles, but these figures are not included in VAMA’s statistics as they are not members of the association.)

VAMA representatives attributed the impressive September sales to the government’s policy of supporting a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically produced and assembled vehicles, as per Decree 109/2024/ND-CP issued on August 29, 2024. This policy came into effect on September 1, 2024, and will last for three months, encouraging consumers to opt for locally assembled vehicles.

Additionally, dealerships offered various promotional programs and attractive gifts to stimulate purchasing.

Looking ahead, the total market vehicle sales from now until the end of the year are expected to continue their strong growth trajectory. With the introduction of new models such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and Honda HR-V, the sales race is set to become even more exciting.
