Porsche has just teased the arrival of the updated 911 GT3 992, the street-legal race car that Porsche enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting. The brand announced that the big reveal will take place on October 18, 2024.
The German carmaker also hinted that the model will be “presented in two variants at the same time,” suggesting that both the standard GT3 and the more exclusive GT3 Touring Package will be unveiled together. Over the past few years, camouflaged prototypes of both cars have been spotted multiple times, indicating only minor aesthetic changes.
The 992-generation 911 GT3 and GT3 Touring are expected to feature redesigned LED lights at the front and rear, along with refreshed bumpers. A closer look at the camouflaged prototypes reveals possible side vents on the front fenders, which could be for improved aerodynamics.
The distinctive swan-neck rear wing and duck-tail spoiler of the Touring model appear to remain unchanged.
While there is no official information about the updated GT3 992’s specifications, it is likely to retain the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine. The powertrain could benefit from a power increase, from the current GT3’s 503 horsepower to the 518 horsepower of the 992-generation GT3 RS, along with some chassis adjustments.
And since we’re talking about the 911 GT3, the upgrades will likely lead to improved lap times at the Nurburgring. It’s worth noting that the 992.1 GT3 was 17 seconds faster around the Green Hell compared to its predecessor, the 991.2 GT3, with a lap time of 6:59.927 minutes.
Currently, the only 911 models that have received the 992.2 update are the base Carrera and the electrified GTS. The more powerful Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, and GT3 RS have already transitioned to the 2024 model year. The 992 GT3 has recently disappeared from Porsche’s online configurator, likely making way for the updated version.
The digital world premiere will be hosted by Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s GT Line Director, and will feature racing legends Walter Rohrl and Jorg Bergmeister. For those invested in Porsche’s GT lineage, this is a notable event.
