Rumors about the new-generation Mazda CX-5 have been circulating in the global automotive industry since 2021. However, it wasn’t until recently that we received more concrete information about its release.

According to the latest updates, the much-anticipated SUV is slated for a global release towards the end of next year. This information was revealed by dealers in Germany, who shared the news with eager customers.

Marking the third generation of Mazda’s best-selling model, the CX-5 will be launched in the European market in the fall of 2025, likely between September and November. However, the official unveiling of the vehicle may take place a few months earlier.

Rumors suggest that the 2026 Mazda CX-5 for the European market will feature a hybrid engine to meet stricter emission standards. This includes a 24V mild-hybrid system paired with a familiar 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine. This setup is expected to deliver a maximum output of approximately 139 horsepower and a peak torque of 238 Nm. According to German dealers, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the 2026 CX-5 will be released at a later date.

Back in May 2024, Mazda confirmed in its financial report that it plans to equip the new-generation CX-5 with a hybrid engine. This engine will be developed in-house by Mazda to compete with the hybrid offerings of rivals such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Additionally, sources indicate that Mazda will discontinue the diesel engine option for the CX-5 in the European market. It remains unclear whether Mazda intends to retain the 2.5L turbocharged gasoline engine for this model.

In terms of dimensions, the 2026 CX-5 is expected to be longer, with a reported increase in length of 110 mm, resulting in a total length of 4,795 mm. This change will contribute to a more imposing presence and a roomier interior.

Design-wise, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 is likely to draw inspiration from the Arata Concept, which made its debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. This concept car showcases the Kodo design language, featuring a closed grille, surrounded by LED daytime running lights, low-slung headlights, and distinctive ‘L’-shaped taillights.
