Just over two months ago, a well-known car modification shop owner in Ho Chi Minh City shared that he would soon be transforming his newly purchased VinFast VF3, worth almost VND 250 million, into a “mini Defender” style, with a touch of Mercedes-AMG GT53.
Now, the project is complete, and it has garnered quite a lot of attention from the online community. Some even joke that the cost of modifications might be three to four times the value of the car, although the owner hasn’t shared much about the expenses incurred for this project.
VinFast VF3, Vietnam’s Most Expensive Modification: Modification Costs Likely Triple the Car’s Value
Starting with the front, this modified VinFast VF3 takes design inspiration from the Land Rover Defender, featuring LED headlights characteristic of the British brand, a redesigned grille, and a front bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights.
Of course, this VF3 has been upgraded with laser bulbs, new positioning lamps, and, notably, a smaller, gold-plated ‘V’ logo positioned on the right side of the grille, reminiscent of Land Rover’s logo placement on their Defender SUV model.
Moving to the sides, this Defender-style modified VF3 SUV features black glossy mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, but the highlight is the beautiful and expensive Mansory multi-spoke rims with a black and red accent finish and a 16-inch size.
At the rear, there’s a new bumper with an attractive diffuser and new LED taillights that stretch across the width of the vehicle. Finally, the car boasts a cement grey body color with numerous black glossy details.
Stepping inside the cabin, you’ll find a significant departure from the standard VinFast VF3 interior, except for the steering wheel. The front rows are separated by a beautifully designed, elongated central console that adds a touch of elegance and luxury. This console also provides additional storage space, an armrest, and wireless charging.
Additionally, the car is fitted with Mercedes E63 seats worth VND 180 million, instead of the GT 53 seats that cost VND 280 million, as initially planned. This change was made to facilitate easier access to the rear seats. The seats are upholstered in black leather with red stitching for a stylish look.
Understanding the challenges faced by electric vehicle users who often need to carry a spare battery, the modification shop owner has cleverly designed a convenient switch, located discreetly below the steering wheel, at a cost of VND 5 million. The rear seats have been modified to allow for individual folding, and the entertainment system includes a large screen, ambient lighting, and a new speaker system.
Lastly, the modified VF3’s hood has been adjusted to open and close like a conventional car, instead of having to lift it out, and now includes additional storage space underneath. All plastic parts within the cabin have been leather-wrapped for a more premium feel.
The VinFast VF3 is currently available in nine different colors, including four basic colors: white, red, dark blue, and gray. The remaining five are premium colors: yellow, purple-pink, light green, light blue, and pink. The VF3’s price is VND 235 million for the battery leasing option and VND 315 million for the battery ownership option.
Powered by an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, the VF3 delivers a maximum output of 43 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 5.3 seconds. It is equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack with a usable capacity of 18.64 kWh, offering a range of 210 km on a single charge according to the NEDC standard. Charging times vary from 5 hours for a full charge using a slow charger to 36 minutes for a 10-70% charge using a fast charger.
