RML Group, a UK-based car tuning company, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and to commemorate this milestone, they have a special project up their sleeve – the P39 40th Special Edition. This limited-edition supercar, based on the Porsche, will be unveiled in 2024, with only 10 units set to be produced.
The P39 40th Special Edition, or the P39 40SE, is built upon the 911 Turbo S 992.1 but features a completely bespoke carbon fiber body and significant performance enhancements.
True to its name, the P39 40SE celebrates four decades of the company’s existence, and one of the key objectives of the project is to complete a lap of the Nurburgring in an estimated time of 6:45 minutes, which would be four seconds quicker than the Porsche 992 GT3 RS and a whopping 32 seconds faster than the donor 911 Turbo S 992.
Michael Mallock, CEO of RML Group, stated that their goal with the P39 40SE is to create a car that can “Easily outpace the GT3 RS at the Nordschleife while remaining comfortable and easy to drive all the way home.”
The custom carbon fiber body of the P39 40SE takes inspiration from the current Le Mans Hypercars. The only parts seemingly retained from the 911 are the headlights, mirrors, windshield, and door handles. It features wider fenders, a longer tail, active aerodynamic components with DRS (drag reduction system), and custom-forged wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear.
Overall, the P39 40SE is 170 mm longer and 90 mm wider than the 911 Turbo S. The track has been widened by 100 mm, and the wheelbase has been extended by 15 mm. This new body generates an impressive 923 kg of downforce at 285 km/h, compared to the 204 kg of the standard 911 Turbo S. Even at 241 km/h, the P39 40SE produces 662 kg of downforce, surpassing the 617 kg of the GT3 RS 992.
In addition to the Track mode, the driver can also utilize the Tour mode, which increases the ride height through hydraulic drive and softens the dampers, making it more suitable for road use. The interior features new sports seats with four-point seat belts, while the rear seats have been replaced by a half roll cage.
Last but not least, RML has upgraded the flat-six, 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged engine to produce an impressive 900 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. This represents a significant increase of 259 horsepower and 200 Nm over the standard 911 Turbo S, thanks to a new ECU, upgraded turbochargers and intercooler, new manifolds and catalytic converters, and a sports exhaust system made from Inconel.”
As expected, all these aforementioned upgrades don’t come cheap. According to RML, the conversion alone will set you back £495,000 (USD $645,022) before taxes, on top of the cost of a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Fortunately, the company can source one for you if needed. The first of the ten P39 40SEs is currently being crafted at RML’s technical center in Wellingborough.
