Volkswagen has revealed that it is developing an all-new compact SUV.
It is understood that the new Volkswagen model will share a platform with the Skoda Kylag. However, the new compact SUV from Volkswagen will still bear the strong imprint of the brand through the details in the interior and exterior.
Volkswagen is likely to use the Polo name for its new SUV.
The car is expected to be equipped with a 1.0L turbocharged gasoline engine, producing 115 horsepower, similar to the Skoda Kylaq.
According to plans, the Volkswagen Polo will be launched in the Indian market in 2026. This “latecomer” may face fierce competition as the trend of urban SUVs is expected to gain popularity in the coming years.
Due to the modest sales of the previous Ameo model, Volkswagen was not particularly keen on the compact SUV segment.
Additionally, the division of tasks in the partnership between Skoda and Volkswagen was one of the reasons why Volkswagen was not truly focused on compact SUVs.
However, in reality, it is challenging for Volkswagen to become a fully electric car brand in India by 2028 due to the stagnant sales of electric vehicles.
Therefore, returning to internal combustion engines is an effective way to optimize costs while expanding its influence.
