A young YouTuber’s over-focus on his live-streaming phone led to a loss of control of his McLaren 570S on a slippery road, resulting in an accident.
Kick Jack Doherty, a 21-year-old YouTuber and streamer, made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he crashed his customized McLaren 570S worth a whopping $200,000 into a roadside barrier while livestreaming.
The incident took place on a Miami highway in the state of Florida, USA. While driving his prized McLaren 570S, Doherty decided to go live on the Kick platform, which proved to be a costly mistake. His attention was divided between the road and his phone, as he continuously checked his device and sent texts. Within minutes, the situation took a turn for the worse.
The road conditions were less than ideal, with the highway being wet from the rain. Doherty seemingly lost control of his high-performance sports car and veered into the right-side barrier, narrowly avoiding a collision with other vehicles.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and no other vehicles were involved. However, the passenger sitting in the front seat suffered a significant head injury and was bleeding profusely.
Doherty’s recklessness didn’t go unpunished. As a consequence of his actions, he was dropped by the Kick platform and received a lifetime ban.
“We do not condone illegal behavior, which is why we swiftly banned this content creator from our platform,” a spokesperson for Kick stated.
True to their word, Doherty’s fans and followers can no longer find his profile on Kick, encountering only a 404 Error page instead.
The aftermath of the accident was captured on video and sparked widespread criticism of the streamer’s reckless behavior and social media obsession. In the footage, Doherty can be heard shouting for help immediately after the crash, and as people rush to his aid, he hands one of them a camera, asking, “Can you hold this?”
“We live in a world where fame is pursued more than compassion,” wrote streamer dakotaz in a poignant post.
