Answering the call to action, “Fiercely Vietnamese Spirit – For a Green Future,” initiated by Vingroup, Vietnamese businesses are undergoing a powerful transformation towards establishing a true Vietnamese electric vehicle ecosystem, aiming for a sustainable future for the community.

Businesses across industries are making the switch to electric vehicles.

“I jokingly told businesses to go ahead with the transition, and I’ll bear the losses because I’m very confident in the cost-saving capabilities of VinFast electric vehicles,” said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dong, CEO of Dong Thuy Co., Ltd. (operator of Lado Taxi) during a meeting in late September between VinFast – GSM and more than 50 passenger transport businesses in Vietnam.

Lado Taxi is one of the taxi brands that has pioneered a commitment to transitioning 100% of its gasoline vehicles to electric, with 1,100 units by the end of 2024, after recognizing the superior economic benefits offered by these green vehicles.

Sharing a similar view, Mr. Ho Chuong, CEO of Son Nam International Transport Co., Ltd., owner of the MaiLove taxi brand in Nghe An province, shared that he had signed a contract to purchase gasoline vehicles from a Japanese brand but was willing to cancel the order and forfeit the deposit to switch to electric cars. He calculated that electric vehicles would help his business save up to 60% compared to gasoline-powered cars. Moreover, he believes that this transition aligns with the government’s orientation towards developing green public transport and is a sustainable long-term strategy.

Lado Taxi and MaiLove are just two examples among many transport service businesses in Vietnam that have already made or are in the process of making the switch to electric vehicles. Some companies are even more aggressive, buying or leasing up to 5,000 cars to gradually replace their existing gasoline-powered fleets.

This wave of change is spreading further as numerous businesses from other industries have signed cooperation agreements with VinFast and its partners to promote the green transition.

Recently, the CEO of NIAD decided to lease 200 VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 vehicles to provide long-term transportation services for partner companies. In early October, the Vietnam Railways (VNR) signed a memorandum of understanding on comprehensive green transition cooperation with Vingroup. Earlier, in April 2024, FPT Group signed an agreement with Vingroup, aiming for a similar goal…

Joining Hands to Build a Green Vehicle Ecosystem

According to experts, the wave of green transition among businesses is stronger than ever in Vietnam. Besides the vision of individual companies, the key factor is the inspiration drawn from pioneering enterprises like Vingroup/VinFast, especially with the campaign “Fiercely Vietnamese Spirit – For a Green Future.

“There has never been a time when the business community has been so united. It’s not just about switching to more environmentally friendly means of transportation, but also about the efforts of leading companies like VinFast, and how they are contributing to building a green ecosystem. This goes beyond the profit story of any single business,” said Dr. Le Huynh Trong An, an economist in Ho Chi Minh City.

He gave an example that, as part of the memorandum of understanding on green transition promotion with VinFast and its partners, the CEO of NIAD will coordinate to open new V-Green charging stations at the company’s headquarters and offices under its management.

At the same time, CarOn Holdings, which owns a nationwide chain of automotive service centers, has been authorized to repair, warranty, and maintain VinFast electric vehicles, with 10 workshops scheduled to open in October. Additionally, electric vehicle owners can also utilize the services provided by the “MeKong Xanh SM” system – a network of workshops for automobile maintenance and repair established by GSM and MeKong Xanh, a subsidiary of Mai Linh Group.

Thanks to these collaborations between industry leaders, the plan is to have a total of 150 workshops across the country by the end of 2024 – an unprecedented speed compared to any other car brand in the market.

Instead of competition, the “win-win” cooperation model between VinFast, V-Green, GSM, and Vietnamese businesses is expected to rapidly increase the number of charging stations and service workshops for electric vehicles, maximizing user satisfaction. These collaborations are even more meaningful as VinFast electric vehicle sales in the latest month have soared to the top spot in the market, signaling an explosion in pure electric vehicles in the coming months.

“The more amenities we have, the first to benefit will be the electric vehicle users. This lays the foundation for accelerating the popularization of green vehicles in Vietnam and creating a platform for VinFast to become a world-class ‘make in Vietnam’ brand,” said Mr. An.

Mr. An emphasized the importance of community support for pioneering companies like VinFast in this process. This is a valuable lesson learned from countries once known for their economic miracles, such as South Korea. “Vietnam can do it, and even better, with the joint efforts of its people and visionary and determined companies like VinFast,” he added.
