Japanese auto giant Toyota is reportedly gearing up to expand its SUV lineup with an entirely new project targeting the small, affordable off-road SUV segment.

According to speculations, Toyota is developing a new model that slots right below the Fortuner and is expected to be competitively priced.

The “mini Fortuner” is anticipated to be built on an entirely new, more producible, and cost-effective body-on-frame platform. This platform could also potentially be dedicated to future Toyota models with an off-road bias.

In terms of powertrain options, the mini Fortuner is likely to offer a choice between a 2.0L gasoline engine and a hybrid gasoline variant.

Design-wise, this new SUV will reportedly borrow styling cues from the Toyota Hilux Champ but with a youthful and dynamic twist, akin to the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV and Toyota Urban SUV Concept.

Pricing for the mini Toyota Fortuner is expected to start at 2 million INR (approximately 600 million VND). The high-end hybrid variant could be priced at around 2.5 million INR (750 million VND).

Thailand and India are expected to be the target markets for this vehicle.
