The new Continental GT Speed is the most powerful Bentley ever built, and despite its potent 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, it can run entirely on synthetic eFuels. Who needs luxury electric vehicles when you can have an environmentally-friendly yet powerful V8?

To showcase the eFuel capabilities of the Continental GT Speed, Bentley invited 157 members of the media to Switzerland for a grand tour and used a blend of synthetic fuel to power all the cars. This fuel consisted of 75% eFuel and 25% regular gasoline.

During the event, attendees ventured to Sustenpass, Grimselpass, Nufenenpass, and the famous St. Gotthard pass, with 12 Continental GT Speeds climbing over 1,400 feet in elevation and covering 8,000 miles (nearly 12,800 km) in seven days. Bentley claims this to be the first media drive using eFuels, resulting in a 93% reduction in vehicle emissions.

Bentley’s position within the VW Group made this event feasible. Porsche is leading the development of synthetic fuels, and the fuel they created at their plant in Chile was used for the Bentley road trip.

The Chile plant features a large wind turbine that powers the necessary electrolysis process to produce hydrogen from water. Porsche then obtains biogenic CO2 and combines the gases to produce methanol, which is converted into eFuel through methanol synthesis.

The powertrain of the new Continental GT Speed includes a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers an impressive 591 horsepower.

It also features a single electric motor integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, contributing an additional 187 horsepower, supplied by a 25.9kWh battery pack. Together, this luxurious coupe offers 771 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque.
